How to upgrade without losing personal configuration file?
I have been dogged (no pun intended) for years with this. I can easily copy into my USB boot storage the new files for a distro upgrade. But when I copy my existing Precisesave.2fs file into the upgraded USB boot, Puppy Precise 5.6.1 and earlier versions along the way do not recognize the ...

trouble with mountine USB drive
One one of my main computers, I get an error message when I click on the desktop icon for a USB thumb drive. This same thumb  drive works in all four of my other Puppy installations. It also used to work on the current problem computer. Here is the detailed error message I get: Failed to ...

Google Chrome for Puppy
I installed the pet file for the Google Chrome browser and the library pet file. The system still reports several missing libraries. The browser flashes for a fraction of a second and then disappears. Another forum visitor reported that the configuration worked for him. Any ideas on what I am ...

configuring wireless phone as modem
I am trying to set up my LG CU500 cell phone to work with Puppy Linux. I have all the settings from the ISP. But nobody knows what to fill in for the Serial Modem Device File in the PGPRS Modem Set Up.
Does anybody know how to do this?
Thanks.

updating PUppy 4.2.1 to FF 3.5 and latest Seamonkey
I've discovered that even though Firefox and Seamonkey notify me of version upgrades, downloading and installing them within Puppy does not work. I've had to revert to a previous save_Pup.2fs file to restore both browsers. Is there a way to upgrade these two browsers into Puppy 4.2.1 without waiting ...

It's nice to know that I am not the only one with the missing sound icon. I'm beginning to conclude that Puppy Linux is very susceptible to hardware-specific flaws. For instance, on the same computer that shows the sound icon, the time zone setting is never correct. It remains four hours later than ...

trouble with video playback in Firefox 3.0.11
Videos do not play in Firefox 3.0.11 in Puppy 4.2.1 even though the SWF plugin is installed and selected in the programs panel within Firefox browser. Oddly enough, Seamonkey plays the videos. So what is missing in my Firefox setup? Is there a fix or work-around? Has anybody had this problem and ...

volume icon missing from the tray
I have Puppy 4.2.1 installed on three computers. The sound icon only appears in the tray on one of these three. I am assuming it is a default setting. But I can not find anyplace in any of the menus or configuration panels to set the icon to appear in the two installations where it is missing. I ...

Seamonkey browser upgrade does not work
I'm running Puppy 4.2.1, which has Seamonkey version 1.15. The software notified me of an available upgrade so I donwloaded the tarball and did the tar2pet conversion to create a pet file, and the Puppy installer seemed to work fine. But nowhere on the system can I find the upgrade of Seamonkey. I ...

Nagging hardware issues
I am running Puppy 4.2.1 on a desktop, a laptop, and a netbook. The only issues I've developed involve the netbook (Sylvania with 1GB RAM). For what it is worth, Puppy is a much better fit on the netbook than the Ubuntu Remix that came pre-isntalled. Anyway, here are the three issues I can't solve ...

I didn't intend to start a new question/topic. I was commenting on something in the last reply. But here goes: When I use OO Writer in Puppy, I do not have the word editing function that allows me to hilight a group of words and drag them to another part of the sentence3 or paragraph. Instead, I ...

I booted from the CD but the files are copied to the hard drive after that as is typical for Puppy options. ONly the DVD drive shows up, even when I insert a CD in the non-appearing optical drive. As I said, the set up module shows both optical drives but has their designations wrong. When I try to ...

one of two optical drives not registering
I have installed Puppy 4.2.1 with a frugal install on a desktop with two optical drives. I know that the drive not registering in Puppy is a working drive. However, Puppy only shows a drive icon on the desktop for the DVD/burner drive. As it should be, the drive icon is grayed out until I load a CD ...

how do I get Puppy 4.2.1 to recognize Lexmark X1150 printer
No doubt there is a Cups download I need. But which one? I am trying to install a Lexmark X1150 printer in Puppy 4.2.1. This printer is a printer/scanner/fax combination. There is no listing for it when I go through the Add a printer steps. But when I load XSane Image Scanner, the app sees the ...
