Thanks for the Skype replies.
This link http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=45612 shows a flawless way to install the latest Skype with a tar file.
Worked perfect for me.

Well, you guys just rock. This is why I love Puppy.

Now all I have to do is figure out how to get Skype to install. I was hoping for a pet, but iguleader has posted instructions for using a tar, so I'll try that.

Thanks a lot.

Okay, thanks a lot guys.
I don't know how to create an executable file. Should I write a script using Geany? I can do that, but how do you make a file executable?

Possible to put a link on the desktop?

I'm trying to set up Puppy 5.1.1 for my elderly father. His Windows is failing him big time. He mostly uses the computer for email and Skype. I would like to make things as simple as possible by putting an icon on the desktop to link directly to his online email account and also Skype through a brow...

I also am disappointed that Chromium won't run on my box which is a AMD 2.1 GHZ P4-type. It just doesn't start at all. It runs on another box with a faster CPU although I really haven't run it through it's paces yet.. I guess it just needs more horsepower than other browsers. I also have a lot of tr...

I'm no expert, but do have experience with Skype... my go-to version of Skype is the stable version 2.0.0.72 listed here http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?search_id=30570762&t=27198. The links to the Skype pets found here seem to be broken. Does anyone know how to access the pets n...

Ah, yes, I actually tried weatherx first and it did display a nice icon for one iteration, then no icons at all, so I switched to weather 1 and 2, which are fine, but the other icons are so nice. Ideal would be a properly working weatherx with more than 1 instance. Thanks for your work. Even my wife...

I'm enjoying using pwidgets. I am using both weather widgets and I notice that there are a bunch of nice icons in the pweathericons folder. When are these used? Is there a way to replace the regular outline-style icons with these? I'm not a programmer, but I can make simple edits to the files.

Is it my local Puppy setup or is there something seriously wrong with this site? http://www.exploregeorgia.org/ On my setup (Lupu5.00) on two computers, it fails on Seamonkey2 and loads okay but has some minor rendering problems on Firefox 3.6.3. It's just because of these kinds of inconsistencies ...

MHHP, Well, I took the liberty of hacking your code (I hate to see something that's broken; I have a "need to fix"). Hope you don't mind. Here's what I found. First, the Earthtools URL and it's syntax is still okay, used in this manner. If you go through the manual options on the main site...

Lucid's major weakness at this point is its ubuntu orientation. Several people, including myself, find the repository problems a real hassle. Many users will walk away from Lucid after they try to install just about any program package. Previous puppy versions were haphazard enough when it comes to...

Sometimes , not always, Seamonkey fails to go to the home page specified in Preferences. It just shows a blank page with no URL shown. In fact, I believe it fails to go to any of the "browser startup" options selected, except for blank page. It seems to correct itself after a while, but I...

Re: Lucid Puppy 5.0 - 15 May 2010

I managed to get amarok installed with the puppy package manager, it had a ton of dependencies but I got them in steps when needed. After the install there was one more lib missing (showed up when I tried to run amarok in terminal) and I got that lib at packages.ubuntu.com. Attached is a screenshot ...

I have just discovered Pwidgets (better late than never). I'm trying to use the "sun" feature, but it always displays the same rise and set times (1:53 and 22:13) no matter the settings I use. Sorry if this has been discussed, but I've found no solution in searching the subject and I sure ...

I'm wondering how to get the gadgets for the calendar, clock and puppy space on this desktop? They seem to have appeared with 4.2, but how does one get them for Lupu?

Don't know if this is a bug; no one else has mentioned it yet. When using FF on Lupu, when I scroll up or down fast enough on some but not all sites, the text either smears badly or leaves missing lines. Ironically, this forum site is one that does it. FF under 4.3.1 does not do this. Seamonkey unde...

Yes, that's a pretty good article, I saw that too. In fact, the one they have is an example of what I was referring to as clones, although I don't know who cloned who. If you look closely at most of the devices you see when researching this, they look very similar, even identical sometimes. Same con...

Most of the other devices you will find are clones of this one with different names and similar looks but diff...
