So, as root, I could in theory, (although as pointed out, when running "live" its not possible to mess up more than your BACKED UP savefile.) jack up my system... OK, so I am "guest" and am forced to "su" ... So 2 letters is all the protection the whole "lower use...

I would suggest that the OP first actually tried the dvd under linux and see if it works/can be made to work. As you can see there are reports which say it works. Hence, not all is lost. See empirically if it works or not and then plan your moves. However this: Disillusioned with dumbness. Chris. wa...

Oh. So it's about asking permission. This makes it clearer, although calling the guy a fraud is perhaps a bit much. To play the devil's advocate some more: I'm not sure about TinyCore's policy, its license or any other rules that its creator might have introduced, but I do know, that it says on my *...

Excuse me if it is a silly question, but how is a fellow who uploads a linux .iso to his account and makes it available for download a fraudster? I'm asking this out of sheer curiosity: everyone seems to be agitated, and yet I fail to comprehend why. It's annoying, so I would really appreciate if so...

The present tool is Pwireless2 whcih confuses the hell out of me.

I'm not sure what the thingy was called in the older or different versions of Puppy. Possibly it was the Simple Network Setup.

Well, the machine is an EeePc 1005P and the Puppy version is Puppeee. So there are no lights etc on the device itself . It did connect alright with the previously used connection wizard, in the older versions of Puppy. I am fairly positive this has to do with me not doing something. I found the olde...

Cable Internet connection

Yet once again I am flabbergasted by my inability to solve something on my own. How do I connect to the internet via cable? Pwireless scans and list the wireless networks alright, giving the option to connect and disconnect. Yet it doesn't list the cable LAN or anything that would resemble it. In th...

It appears that the RC5 adresses all the issues I complained about. I can set the resolution in Xorg and the touchpad works fine as well.

Thanks :)

Yes the Xorg is too old for the GMA3150 found in the PineTrail models, but you should be able to get full resolution in Xvesa. If you can't, please let me know. I will build Puppeee 5 hopefully when I finish Puppeee 4. :) Indeed, Xvesa sorted things out. Thanks for the hint :) Strangely enough tapp...

I got me a 1000P and quite obviously tried Puppeee. The look and feel is simply amazing and there's little more I can say than "Congratulations and thanks". I tested all the DistroWatch Top 10 distros on the machine (incl. their eee-variants) and Puppeee's the only one that got the functio...

Well it doesn't crash for no reason. But truth be told I can't reall Windoze doing it really randomly either. I did make Puppy freeze, or crash a few times. Problem is, my hard drive is amazingly cranky. Sometimes it simply stops and you can hear that. Windows goes into bluescreen mode and dies then...

Seems like a lawsuit waiting to happen. And I have to agree on the scamming part. I've been really annoyed by what "they" to do plain old butter. Apparently they put ingredients list on butter and that should already ring he alarm bell. Upon closer inspection it turns out that there's mere...

Do you remember the story about the little guy (a pig? what the hell was it?) yelling "Wolf! Wolf!" just for the hell of it and when the wolf came nobody believed him? The greens are the little guy. They've lost a lot of credibility. Which is a shame, because there's no way that two centur...

DSL is the reason I came to know Puppy Linux. I spotted the name in an article somewhere, and frankly it caught my eye. I google it, which led me to a wikipedia page on small linuxes, and of all those listed there Puppy seemed the easiest to try. I do seem to remember that I found the installation i...

Well, I guess people get over-enthusiastic. You would experience a similar kind of behaviour from someone very young. Adjust your way of dealing with it to the type of people your parents are. You know, if your dad is an hard-working, hard-drinking, steel-toed boot wearing engineer your strategy sho...

Ps. Yes, they saved 4900 on the initial laptops but then spent money on those they currently have (1800 quid - I just realised haven't got the "pound" symbol on my keyboard. WTH? :D)

I'm so dumb. Too much TV I guess. All this time I've been booting from the cd, then Puppy would load the savefile and proceed to work normally. The last few months I've been using a usb install, so this one boots from the usb and loads the savefile off the usb - thank f*k for that, makes me feel les...

Mind you that quoting a book won't do. It has to be a reliable source. But there won't be any. (To illustrate: there is an ongoing argument on wikipedia on the nature of Maltese language. A user pushes the opinion that it is a "mixed language". It isn't. It was only called thus in a single...

Is this a feature of the newer versions then? I'm almost positive that 4.21 didn't require any messing with grub. Hell, that's part of the reason I started to use Puppy - no messing with teh drive, just the cd and a nice little savefile. (Unless of course I'm having a brainfart and frugal install is...
