Problem: Getting a working printer driver for Quirky Tahr (32-bit) for my Brother MFC-L2700DW. OK, after wandering in computer wilderness for a couple of days, mostly due to self-inflicted injuries, I am finally ready to report on my attempt at using debbi-pet-maker in Tahrpup 6.0.3 (also 32-bit) to...

@rcrsn51, so far this technique on Quirky does not seem to be working for me. This terminal will not let me scroll back and copy the error messages. I am on my 3rd practice install of Tahrpup...I'll go more slowly and write down the errors as they occur.

I'll get back to you.

@rcrsn51: ALLRIGHT! 1. From Gslapt, install ghostscript, its fonts package and perl. 2. Load the 32bit-slacko6.sfs 3. Bring the debbi script from Puppy and put it in /usr/bin. 4. Run it on the two Brother Debian packages. 5. Turn off 64bit CUPS and start 32bit CUPS Code: /etc/init.d/70-cups stop chm...

@rcrsn51, I have made an interesting observation on the problem that I described in my post of 26 July above regarding installation of an MFC-L2700DW Brother printer on Quirky Tahr (which is 32-bit). I made another fresh install of quirky Tahr. To it I copied debbi-1.2.pet; then I updated the oackag...

@rcrsn51 - thank you for your suggestions (I have been away from the printer for a day or so, and am just now having a chance at trying them out)! In Tahrpup, when I set up the Brother MFC-L2700DW printer in CUPS 1.4.8, using the Generic PCL 6/PCL XL Printer driver, "Print Test Page" did n...

@Kirk, it looks like earlier I messed up on the dialogue that follows the installation of cups-cloud-print. I re-installed the cups-cloud-print and think I got it right this time: now my MFC-L2700DW appears in CUPS' Manage Printer section as "GCP-Brother_MFC-L2700DW_Series" and seems to be...

EOwens, you probably need this pkg loaded to compile those drivers, also available via FD's SFS manager. @Semme, thank you for your suggestion, but I actually had 32bit-slacko6.sfs and fd64-devx_701.sfs mounted when I was looking for the needed files; if I followed the dependency trail correctly, l...

@jamesbond, I would like to request a package for Fatdog64 consisting of ia32-libs and its dependencies or lib32stdc++ and its dependencies (the package manager has some of them already). I have tried unsuccessfully to acquire and install all of them as .debs using dpkg. The problem is that Brother ...

I would like some advice on how to get my new Brother MFC-L2700DW printer working on Quirky Tahr. I am using Quirky Tahr 6.0.5 (CUPS 1.7.1) on an Acer c710 laptop. The md5sums for tahr-6.0.5.usfs.xz and install-quirky-to-partition.sh were both correct. Brother printer drivers are created by download...

The "internal server error" has nothing to do with the Brother driver and everything to do with the CUPS setup in Quirky. Are you doing this from a clean install? Have you added any other packages like web browsers? Are you using a 32bit Quirky? You should post your problem in the Quirky ...

@fatdog, is there any way to add a ".pet" to Fatdog64 701? I am thinking here of rcrsn51's debbie-1.2.pet which installs Brother printer drivers. I think it does more than simply install the .deb file it is pointing to. I am having a heckuva time getting a Brother printer driver (MFC-L2700...

UEFI booting is for April 64 7.0.3, older Quirky and Puppy don't have the kernel support.
You would need legacy boot for older versions.
O.K. Thanks.

I re-read the Barry's News sections on UEFI and kernel 3.19.2 and I see that now.
