Distrowatch questions RE: Quirky

Maybe someone in the know should address this on Distrowatch, you made today's newsletter? I use USB flash or hard drives instead.

Just trying to help others...

Is there a Puppy Webpage about Tech Tools with descriptions?

Eathray and everyone, Thanks for the info. When I have a tower brought back to me and they finally confess they borrowed it out...anti-virus removed and it's been using dial-up and of course it stopped booting. :-O Perhaps the WMA files were linked to another computer or were even from online ...

Backing up sick WinXP computers with Puppy to USB...

Hello Guys/Gals, I've tried to search for this info...when it didn't work for friends, I said at least I saved your other photos and documents with Puppy 4.31, in this case. Perhaps it's that M$ and Hollywood, etc. that is to blame, but I was just hoping someone had some Puppy insights how the files ...

US America PO Money Orders

Hello Barry, I'm glad my Mint Linux KDE hasn't updated Firefox yet, since my Ubuntu 10.4 and probably the latest Firefox couldn't get your Blog this morning. My friend used to send me PO money orders in the states and I cashed them there at the post office with my photo ID. I wish I could leave ...

Pup-424 dated 9-6-09

Hello Puppy Masters, Well if I stick a USB card in it this old Pentium style /K2 running at 466 MHz, I could use a USB mouse with Puppy, but then I'd be giving up trying to save this friend's Win95's hard drive with two versions of Autocad, etc. It was originally in a Pentium 2 installed computer ...

Remember to save money on that RAM

Hi,

When I sent that info to one of the Linux Mac reporters, he was very grateful, because Apple charges so much for parts and RAM. I hope that helps defray costs and helps get you back on track with PowerPup.

Take care,
ChiJoan

What about the help from Novell's OpenSuse PowerPC version?

Hello, I have a G4 PowerPC tower in the closet waiting for a faster OS, too. When I know I had installed OpenSuse PPC version, then read about that program of they started, I thought about your project. Maybe you should look into it? http://en.opensuse.org/Build_Service http://software.opensuse.org ...

Anyone know why Linux, including Puppy can't use onboard NIC

Hello, Yes, I even tried putting in several PCI NIC cards instead, but no luck getting online. Yet with the drivers from MSI the onboard NIC works with WinXPpro. The manual says it's an Intel 82562ET and Puppy does find it. Oh, the Knoppix LiveCD said it wasn't supported, but no reason, but they ...

Yahoo dial-up connection problems...

Hello, I've tried to help some Newbies on the Yahoo Puppy Group, and directed them here. But it would be a good idea to have a sticky on that list as to how to connect. It seems Puppy may be one of the last Distros that supports dial-up modems. In order for me to test my old external modem, I'd have ...

UPUP mice problem?

Hello Barry, I tried this UPUP on an old ASUS VX97 motherboard with Intel 82430VX Triton 2 chipset, Award BIOS dated 4/9/97, and the CPU was a Pentium MMX 200 MHz with 64MB RAM. UPUP booted up live, but it was missing the select your mouse question and both the PS/2, serial, and after adding a USB 2 ...

upup and Puppy 4.2 questions

Hello Everyone, Hats off for even booting on this HP 4540 Celeron 433 MHz, 128MB PC66 RAM mini tower. I'm using onboard video, but put in a Yamaha OPL3-SAX WDM Driver ISA sound card and a Zoom LT Modem, but using the DFE-530TX+ NIC. Could you tell me why Win2000pro rolls, but comes out of it quicker ...

PowerPup

Hello PowerPup, I'll be using a separate hard drive for installing from your Live CD/DVD, since my Mac OSX hard drive is only 20 GIG in size. I got lucky and bought my G4 PowerPC tower with an OS on it or RAM for $15.00. I tested RAM and had the best luck with sticks that were both PC100 and PC133 ...

Any chance for a Power PC Mac Pup Live CD/DVD?

Hi Everyone, As you know Mac Power PC computers are being dumped by Apple soon. I got my Power G4 AGP Mac tower at a college surplus sale for $15.00 without an OS. So I can't help but wish someone wanted to think about a Mac Pup or Muppy Live version for hardware testing at least. If it weren't for ...

Belkin USB NIC not working in TeenPup 2008

Hello, It seems Dingo 4 wouldn't boot on this Compaq Prosignia 162 with a P2 running at 366 MHz with about 190 MB RAM, but I had it booting before as I wrote on it, to note there was no Gem Drop game. I know it wasn't on this laptop though, glad TeenPup 2008 installed. I know the USB worked on WinXP ...

Booting on Compaq Prosignia 162 seems OK

Hello, I just did my first hard disk install with TeenPup and wiped out the Win2000 install as intended. I was happy it left the BIOS partition on the 6 GIG hard disk OK. The Grub Set-UP was a little rocky, but then I didn't read the instructions first. The other day this TeenPup CD amazed me ...
