I almost forgot... Check you BIOS out and make sure that it has enabled hard drive booting... all that unplugging of your battery could potentially mess up your BIOS settings. I think that pet is only good for kernel 2.6.25.16
To find your kernel version go to the console and type
uname -r
Load a version of puppy on your machine with the same kernel.

You need to save the file first, click file, and save as. You need to name the file something, anything, just type a name in the box near the bottom of the screen (in mpaint). You can also specify where you want to save, navigate clicking on the ./ and ../

Very easy:

Menu > Graphic > mtpaint-snapshot screen capture

It gives you 10 seconds to adjust things, then done and save the capture as a file where you want.
