Google's bookmarks will merge many bookmark files. I've used it and it does work. You can access the merged file from anywhere, that's quite useful. However, I have not worked out how to get the merged file in Google back into my system.

I'm certainly staying with Puppy although I don't frequent the forum quite as much as I did previously. Volunteering in a computer recycling centre, the only boxes Puppy won't boot on are those that nothing boots on  . Not always the prettiest but certainly the most reliable. It would be nice i...

Thanks for the further comments Beem. Needless to say but I've thought about it also however quite by chance I found that 'umount -a' actually does unmount shares. Just 'fiddling', I entered 'umount -a' and found that my shares had gone. This, I think' means that rc.shutdown does unmount the shares ...

Thanks Beem You've confirmed my worries. Currently I also manually unmount everything. The problem is that in future I may not be the only one required to shutdown the system. Not that I claim to always remember everything :D Hence the desire to make it automatic. Are you sure that rc.shutdown does ...

Unmounting SAMBA shares
I'm trying to automate the unmounting of my SAMBA shares. The shares are all on my server and are mounted manually. No problem there, if they are not mounted things don't work  and one click on the 'Server Mount' icon on the desktop and (provided the server has been booted) all is OK. BUT unmou...

Yes - I've been using Watchdog at the recycling centre where I'm a volunteer. It does work OK although I've only been using 1 camera. Two cameras seemed to give it a problem but that may have been our video hardware. I do have a copy - but not here. From memory it is quite large 400 - 500 Mb, not ve...

Thanks for the reply vtpup but I don't understand how that would help. I'm also interested in your profile. TP600E with a Plll hack. How did you do that? I'm using a TP600E at the moment and I'd LOVE to speed it up. I've got 2 of them and they are wonderful reliable little boxes, just a bit slow eve...

I'm very interested in this but have not got the download left for this month to give it a try :( . I might have to raid some friends bandwith :) . In reply to Lobster's comment - Be aware that Audacity worked OK (after much problems getting it to work) in the 2.xx and the Slackware compatible 3.xx ...

Thanks for the prompt reply - I think you got the correct message - I should have said 'until I reboot the CLIENT computer'. Now, to answer the other questions. I fired up four computers as follows:- Named OS Connection Address ServerPC Puppy 4.00 Router Port 1 192.168.1.100 WinXP XP Router Port 3 1...

First - pnethood is wonderful. I could handle the alternatives however it was far too difficult for my wife :( So thank you very much HairyWill. However I've encountered a rather odd bug which I can't find reference to. I run a 4 port router with an 8 port SOHO switch downstream from the router. Pne...

In the past I regularly recorded with Audacity under Puppy and sometimes with Cool Edit under Windows (XP or 98). I never notice any difference in the record quality. Check that you do have the input you 'think' you are using activated. I remember that when I first used Audacity under Puppy I had so...

I LIKE SeaMonkey. Firefox, I don't see much difference from SeaMonkey. They both 'browse the web' and anyway, I'm beginning to worry about how popular it is becoming. I can't be seen to use something that is popular or maybe that should be Sage's line  Opera - Irritating, just seems to be diffe...

panzerpuppy - Thanks for the tip about Wavosaur, I've never heard of it before. Will follow that up although as I said Audacity does most things. I didn't make it clear that the box with XP-Lite on it is dedicated to that. It has no other system on it. I sometimes use it to test new releases of Pupp...

I have a 1,8Ghz P4 with XP-Lite on it. It boots almost as fast as Puppy as long as I keep it de-fragged and 'cleaned'. What I use it for makes that VERY necessary. It is networked with the other Linux boxes but isolated from the internet. It is only used for the following 3 jobs. (a) DVD authoring. ...

Hi Where did you get Cinelerra from? The only .pet I know of never really worked. If you are trying to install anything other than a .pet (a .pet is a package specifically created for Puppy) then that is not a job for a n00b  The error messages you got indicate a missing library module. I wou...
