Won't work in Tahr 6.0.2 for me. DL the latest xrdp and x11vnc from the package manager, and it starts up and tries to work until you actually try to connect to it. Then you get a buffer overflow related to ipv6. Found http://mispdev.blogspot.com/2014/04/x11vnc-avoiding-buffer-overflow-when.html to ...

Weird thing just happened. I plugged in an Android phone via USB, and it brought up the install partition for the MTP stuff which shows up in Puppy as an optical icon on the desktop. Then all the drive icons disappeared and now they won't stay up. I can restart X and they pop up as usual, then they ...

"In a world that exists without walls and fences, who needs Windows and Gates?" Of course using the dreaded Windows there are several apps that allow making bootable USB drives....no confusion, no geeky things to do, no confusion. Yeah, but........:D If I wanted an idiot proof OS I'd use Ubuntu ...

I just searched again. I'm not really sure there is any benefit besides ext4 allowing deeper levels of subdirectories, and I'm talking black hole deep. So deep you'll probably never get there with a typical Puppy install. So, short answer: you probably should just use ext2 and forget the disabling ...

I don't really recall. There was some reason I found when installing another distro, but I can't remember now what it was.

Sure. I was over-complicating it. To get a full-ish install do the following. Format your flash drive with ext2 with the command below. mkfs.ext2 /dev/sda1 -- This is your chosen partition for install. Then copy these files from the Puppy liveCD of choice. Again things will differ from this ...

How to boot a full install from a USB drive

The universal installer won't let me install to a usb drive as if it were a SATA HDD, so what I did was to create a small (1GB) partition on a real HDD in a spare PC and install Puppy to that. Then make a backup .img with dd to an external HDD via usb. Then I wrote that .img to a flash drive ...

Possible issue. When you uncheck the option to auto-play DVD video and CD audio it completely stops the normal handler operation. So instead of mounting or displaying the contents of a partition when you click on it, you just get the pmount window popping up. Check the option for DVD and CD, and it ...

Tahrpup fixes all issues for me. Video works fine, and so does my NIC.

Running it as my main pup now.

Thanks Barry for the hard work on Quirky. I'd still love to use it as my main once it gets a little more up to date.

Appreciate the work on this. I'm booting from a flash drive, and running a completely diskless super compact Haswell based rig I built myself. Quirky led me to this puplet, and I'm glad I took all the effort and time to get it running. So tiny, yet so awesome. :) http://i301.photobucket.com/albums ...

Also tried booting with a kernel from tahrpup, but that doesn't really work either. It does go farther than my own compile. What I think needs to happen is you'd have to boot into the normal quirky, then install the xorg accelerated driver (think that is available IIRC) and then boot with the tahr ...

Love the quirky idea. Boots up lightning fast from a flash drive even the first time.

But I too need Atheros NIC support.

I don't understand the cloud idea either. I have a 2TB NAS RAID box which I'll be upgrading hopefully soon to a 5-6TB config. I LIKE local storage for things. Documents, movies, tv shows, pictures, and even my email I still use POP for and store it all locally.
