Slacko 5.6 install not working.
Mick, I have loved and used Slacko since 5.3, may be the qld affinity?? :D It usually runs well straight up, finds wifi, installs well and does what I ask of it except where RAM is an issue. I hope this is where I should post this, let me know if it is not, thanks. I have frugal-installed 5.6 to HD ...

No go with nox!!!
Hey kirk,
I tried FD with pfix=nox as you suggested but it still won't boot the kernel. But never mind, I'll give it a go if and when I get more ram.
Thanks again for your help,
Ray

killapup, You can try booting with pfix=nox and see if it boots to a prompt. I haven't tested with less than 1Gb of RAM, but I would guess 512MB might work. The system will use about 210MB of RAM for storing the kernel and SFS file. Of course you still need RAM to actually run things, it would be t...

Re: FD64 621 not completing boot.
It seems you have an old laptop that doesn't have enough RAM? It is my understanding that when FatDog decompresses, it uses around 700M RAM. Hey thanks, chapchap, I wasn't sure if that would be the problem but it makes sense, I guess. I suppose the next question is 'does this mean that just adding ...

FD64 621 not completing boot.
G'day, I've been a happy and content Puppy user for quite a while now but recently came across fatdog and thought I'd give it a go. I've got a few different puppies installed on my laptop, Slacko being my main go-to puppy, love it!! I downloaded FD 621 and burned it to a CD, put it in the drive and ...

Thanks 51, I'm still learning about Linux and am very green about Grub....... but it is fun trying. Thanks for the referral to the Grub Legacy article, you obviously have a good grasp on it. So, on that, is it worth redoing the boot loader using Grub Legacy instead of Grub4dos? Or am I just asking f...

Well, for any who have been watching this thread, I now have 3 puppies and 3 other non-puppy distros, all bootable, on my hd. Thanks, James, for your help in sorting the booting issue for Vector Linux which helped with the entry for SnowLinux. Now that that is solved, I'll mark that soon, can anyone...

Thanks James C, that worked a treat, my entry was almost there, in fact there was too much information, grub4dos had added a couple of unnecessary options, I got rid of them and it worked. The only thing is that it booted into the command line but I'll check the VL forums for answers to that one, at...

How to boot multiple Linuxes from Grub4dos? (Solved)
G'day all, it's been a while since I was on this forum and in that time I have been playing around with other OSes, the end result: aaaarrrrgggghhhhhh!!!! :x Good thing Puppy is so stable and reliable. My main OS is Puppy slacko 5.x, up to 5.5 now, great new release, love it. I've also installed Mac...

Ok, so I've gone back and tested the DVD mentioned earlier and, guess what? it played through. I left it go for 20 minutes. Ok, the playback wasn't terribly good but it didn't freeze, and the sound and vision were sometimes in sync, but it played, go figure???? So, to reiterate, it doesn't seem to d...

Part II
G'day again, after thinking that I had got it all sorted with previous posts and responses and after some further testing, it seems that it is not that simple. While the eject key on the Apple keyboard (keymapped as per micko's directions) does eject the disk, it still doesn't work all the time, :cr...

iMac Superdrive on Puppy. (solved)
G'day all you good people who have contributed to my query, I have success at last. :D Thanks micko and CatDude, for your more recent responses, and particularly for the key binding code suggestions, that was what helped. Along with the man page for eject , I found that the command I needed to use w...

Thanks for your comment, russoodle, I've just done a bit more experimenting with it and found that basically it doesn't do the same thing twice... most times. I have found that mostly it would eject ok after a restart, but this morning I found that if I just unplug the unit from the USB port and rep...

Hey TLM, I've tried your script/.desktop file and initial result is no go, I get a 'Can't find Exec command in file' error. Any suggestions?? Would be appreciated, thanks. I find now that I can't use the 'eject cdrom' command from the console any more, it can't open /dev/sr0?? But I did find another...
