Thanks for the post, koulaxizis. As I said the Samsung keyboard screen control are brilliant when using XP. In Puppy, nothing I've tried makes much difference. Altering values in Xorg's colour gamma calibration either made the screen paler or darker. But surely some adjustment is available.

I'm getting on pretty well with my usb-booting Lupu 5.2.8 on my Samsung NC10 netbook. But I can't find how to adjust the screen brightness. Now have Lupu 528 bootable from flash drive. Brilliant. But the 'Mail' desktop icon gives me Sylpheed. I want to remove Sylpheed, instal Thunderbird, and have this icon open it. Can I do this? Any help, please?

Sylpheed was installed on boot-up as email client How did you do this? As far as I know I did nothing other than follow the 'official'(?) procedure for burning .iso onto CD, booting up, then using Puppy's usb installer, so as to reboot from flash drive. Cicking Mail on desktop brought up Sylpheed ...

I'm new here, having booted from usb. Sylpheed was installed on boot-up as email client, but doesn't appear so in the Package Manager installed programs box. I have installed Seamonkey. How, please, can I uninstall Sylpheed?
