Tower power supply replaced, now multiple Internet issues
Running Precise 5.7.1, left it running overnight, but in the morning it was off, so I pushed the on button and there was a flash and a whiff of smoke from the back and it was down for good. Local fixer put a new power supply in and it worked pretty well for a day, but then the internet kept dropping...

Hi Mike: I have gmail, and I went there and asked that they get Pop3 mail. . .and it did! Now of course there's not enough room for all of it (it goes back to 2010), but that tells me it's stored at Gmail. I see your point about culling the dross, and I will try to do that. May have to if Tbird says...

Thunderbird update ate my mail
I'm using precise 5.7.1 and I had thunderbird portable (don't remember the distro, but it was fairly old). It ran an involuntary update, and now I can't open it. It had lots more mail than my gmail account has, but while I've reinstalled 45 from the PPM, it only put in 7 current emails. Where is my ...

I gave up on the Epson, traded it in for an HP, which prints the entire page contents on the left half of the page. No drivers for this one, either, on CUPS. Ultimately I bought a used laptop running Windows 10 and I print from that. Lessons learned: 1)less support by hardware makers these days for ...

New HP in Precise printing only on left half of page
I'm using Precise 5.7.1 on an older desktop, and the new HP Officejet Pro 6978 prints. . .but only on the left half of the page. I've tried to download drivers, upgrading CUPS, adjusting the margins in CUPS, all to no avail. I go through printers pretty quickly, and I think I've seen this before, bu...

I came up with a solution for the Epson. . .I returned it. Now I have an HP Officejet pro 6878, which was supposed to be able to work with a linux machine. . .and it DOES print all the information. . . on the left half of the page. So far I've tried using the wife's iPad, and that works fine. Tried ...

Epson WF 3720 prints blank pages from Precise 571
I just got an Epson WF 3720 for my desktop running precise 5.7.1. Precise recognized the printer right away, and knows it should print when I tell it to, but just cranks out blank pages and won;t stop. It does fine printing tests of itself, so it's not the ink or printhead. I tried to use CUPS to co...

Thanks, Peter, fabrice and Perdido. In going to the site you recommended, I found this, which explains how I got into this mess in the first place: Here's a quick explanation: Linux sees hard drives in the order they are connected to the motherboard as shown in your PC's BIOS and not in the order th...

finding lost photos
I have an Inspiron 1501 that refuses to die, and was running Tahr 6.0 from a disk, with XP on the drive. The save files were on an SD chip, but it started to fill up, so I started moving the pictures to SDA2. Then Windows had a problem, and since I thought it was just on SDA1, I reformatted that and...

pup radio works but nothing else
I'm running Tahr 6.0.5 on an inspiron 1501, trying to stream radio. Most of the time the sites I want APPEAR to be connected, but no sound. I tried pup radio through multimedia and it works fine. . .at least one station. The others say Your input can't be opened: VLC is unable to open the MRL 'http:...

WP: Still no joy. Tried pepper on another machine (with Tahrpup64 6.0.5, sfs on a SD chip) and same result. . .it showed up among the internet options, but click on it and nothing happens. Then I tried your options 2 and 3, but while the site said they were 70 or 80 MB, they were still downloading a...
