I'm seeing a failure in the 'Set icon' option in the Menu.

Frequently the icon I choose to replace the default generic icon linked to a directory or application icon is not retained on a reboot sometime later.

I followed ETP's slow guide to doing the set-up and having made a 1 to 5 seconds change to /usr/sbin/quicksetup (666philb's suggestion).

Ran "jwm -p" in a terminal and quickly got a new # blank line. I assume this means no problems in jwm as this is what I saw in a well-running Pup.

So I deleted the Fossa-9.0.3 iso and files from the frugal subfolder and re-downloaded the iso - again, the new iso has the right md5sum ...

After several tries on several days with 9.0.3 (checksum is OK), I cannot get a manual Frugal to get past shifting the drive icons from left to bottom, with a closer spacing as well during initial set-up.

The icons will shift but the taskbar disappears (screenshot).

You may also find some mail icons in /usr/share/pixmaps/puppy/

Try an svg icon which is scalable without losing sharpness, unlike some other graphics formats which get fuzzier the bigger you make them.

Or browse the net for email icons and copy any you like to /usr/share/pixmaps/ and ...

If possible, I suggest you steer clear of old-fashioned 'installing' and go the SFS route.

Put the SFS in the partition root directory and just mount it with Load-SFS-on-the-Fly in the Setup Menu.
Much easier to 'uninstall' by just unmounting the SFS, again with Load-on-the-Fly ...

Ran latest v83 sfs (made into links from its files on my data partition) which was very nice in a LxPupSc64 but I can't find where a profile was created that could be then copied/linked/shared to other 64-bit Pups on my desktop (all in my 64-bit Pups partition).

Is LibreOffice installed this way actually as a SFS (so maybe needs mounting or loading?) or installed just the 'normal way' (not my way at all) as files added to the Savefile?

Reads like you have Abiword set as your default html viewer - to set up CUPS for a printer, a browser is required to access the localhost via an html file (I'm guessing this, based on my own problems setting up a wifi-networked printer in all my Pups).

I switched (by renaming) the libdconfsettings.so in this ScPup64's lib64/gio/modules/ directory with the one from a BionicPup64 ...
... and now Opera worked.

I then added this BionicPup lib file to Opera's lib directory and renamed both such files in ScPup64's /lib64 ...

To maintain a common profile for all my 64-bit Pups, I copied the Profile from the now-older Iron78 portable directory to the new adjacent Iron81 directory, deleted the original in Iron78 and made a link of the Profile copy in 81 ...

Another test:

64SCPup+6T, using JWM (not lx), with 5.4.6 kernel; libpangoft2 version is 3400, in /usr/lib.

Google-Chrome Portable runs with the 4000 version of libpangoft2 but not the 4400 version.

Opera-portable doesn't run but comes up with a new problem, not related to ...

Quickly tried the 4400 lib in Opera and Google-Chrome portables in a Slacko64-6.9.9.9 (original kernel) and then in a beta BusterPup64 (also original kernel).

I am seeing a lib version problem in this Google-Chrome in alpha-beta FossaPup64 where LAUNCH is trying to use the (newer?) file in Fossa64 ('4400' in file name) , not the (older?) file in the lib directory of Google_Chrome-portable ('4000').

Google_Chrome did not run in Fossa64 ...

I have noticed that on my desktop, USB drives can change their lettering if more than one is used - my USB 1TB backup drive can be sdc or sdd or even sde if I've just used other thumb drives on a Pup for the same session.

But your fun&games sound like a failing hardware somewhere ...
