is there alternative to palemoon browser?
I use puppy xenial 7.5. The deault palemoon browser crashes often when using then I have to restart x server using keys. I think it's the palemoon's browser engine conflicting with the modern linux kernel on the xenialpup75. I've tried Chromium browser and it works amazing but it's to heavy on my sy...

Palemoon is broken or lacks compatibility with xenialpup 7.5
palemoon browser is not reliable on xenialpup. It often crashes and cannot be used for anything serious. It seems the engine is not working well with the kernel in xenialpup. I've tried updating to newer versions than the default version 27 but it gets worse. The deault palemoon browser crashes ofte...

I think this is a kernel issue. If dpup stretch 7.5 were to be built using the same kernel as xenialpup specified below, it wouldn't work with the dongle as well. think there might be changes is usb modswitching methodology in linux kernel. Kernel Release: 4.4.95 Build Date: Mon Nov 13 17:15:42 GMT ...

As per other posts a USB modem is not normally in modem mode when plugged in. Unfortunately devices like these tend to be a bit Windows-centric. The idea being there is a Windows driver on the device. If Installed already then modem mode is auto activated. If not the device driver is installed and ...

I would try with a prv savefile to install in xenialpup the same usb-modeswitch of tahrpup: http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pet_packages-tahr/usb-modeswitch-1.2.4-up.pet http://distro.ibiblio.org/puppylinux/pet_packages-tahr/usb-modeswitch-data-20120815.pet I don't know how to create a prv sav...

Hi wert, Sorry that didn't work. You may want to try radky's dpup-stretch 7.5, http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=974590#974590 which --having opened its PPM I note-- has builtin USB-Modswitch version 2.5.0 and USB-Modswitch-data-20170120-1. These are newer than the packages for Xenia...

I will REPEAT FOR HOPEFULLY THE LAST TIME. A POWER OUTAGE WILL LIKELY AFFECT ALL FILE SYSTEMS. All you can do is choose one that will be easier to recover. My setup is practical. I've used my desktop for business on a day to day basis for 3 years now on an ext2 partition and the savefile being ext2...

The very rare phenomena I can think of is that your save file itself gets removed by a dos.fsck filesystem check if the partition that's holding it is not a linux e.g. ext2 and doesn't have sufficient space to copy it to i.e. the free space on the filesystem is insufficient for a savefile's copy. Th...

Interesting. But, will my computer stay fine, if I use ext2 partition, then load some files from hard disk (from same or another partition), or have another kind of partition mounted, then I got electricity loss? Unless the other partition is NTFS type, you will not have problems. In fact, my tradi...

I recommend you use ext2 if you have low storage space e.g. small data partition or sd card with 6gb or less. Ext4 will eat alot of space and has no benefit for a random user. It's rare for a filesystem to get damaged unless it's hardware damage e.g. bad sectors on the HDD. In my experience with rea...

@ wert:- These are the days of machines with 32/64 GB of RAM; terabytes of storage space; ultra-powerful CPUs with dozens of cores and almost unlimited capabilities; GPUs that do near enough everything for you except wash your socks.Mike. Some cheap smartphones produced in 2019 with 512mb of...

It also perfomes better with facebook and youtube. .....which is really not surprising, given that Chromium development is 'sponsored' (read 'financed') by the same people that own YouTube. 'Big Bruvva' Google. Who else? After all, it's in their own interests to ensure that their own products perfo...

@ wert:- That's a pretty old version of Chromium, mate. If you like the Chromium-based browsers, I'd seriously recommend you take a look at the Iron browser , from SRWare of Germany. It'll do everything Chromium/Chrome themselves will do, and has a lot of privacy stuff built-in to it. Quite a numbe...

Ok, I see what you are talking about. Not sure what is causing this. However, I just made a different alt + key combo to do it. Menu>Desktop>JWMDesk Manager>Desktop tab>JWM Hotkey>Add new shortcut I used: alt+z That seems to work for me. Plus the left alt and z key are next to each other and easier...

To really solve the problem buy an Uninterruptable Power Supply for about 50 bucks, and run the desktop power supply off that. All you have time to do is shutdown a desktop (5-10 minutes) but a lappy can go on batteries, with the modem/router running off the UPS device for quite a while. And of cou...
