Since you mention this... the latest kernel also hasn't got SOFTWARE_SUSPEND turned on, which would be good for laptop users who want to use the "suspend2" package for suspend/hibernate. Yes, Barry, please do this as I and several others have been wanting to get suspend and hibernate working for ...

DCOPserver and KDE/Grafpup

Hi Guys, I did get KDE running in Grafpup but it would not shut down properly so had to hit the off button. Since then, I get this starting KDE: ERROR setting up interprocess communication. Thanks John, yes, quite a feeling of satisfaction (and relief!). I see from DWW that you will be writing a how-to on using other distros packages, I look forward to it.
Cheers, Mike

Thanks John, I've actually got digikam running now! :D I get a few error messages, but it is working. I havnt figured how to get it to connect to the camera yet, but in the process of rebooting, I discovered that if I boot with the camera connected, I can mount it like a drive and download it that ...

Well guys, I've been attempting to run digikam fron the konsole and have gradually been tracking down the missing libs and copying them from teenpup. It seems that the missing ones are those that were symlinked to another with a different name so I have done likewise if they were aleady in the ...

Thanks joey, I had tried xwin openbox but just got the black screen. It works now after I followed your instructions, :D ( although "settings" is on the menu rather than under "system", but I got your drift ) I'll try kde again now I know how to get openbox back if kde fails to shutdown properly ...

kde gets grafpup in a pickle

I've got in a bit of a mess trying kde in grafpup. It was working fine til I came to shut down and it wouldnt, so I ended up pushing the off button. On powering back up, kde stalls with the message: No write access to "/root/.ICEauthority" KDE is unable to start. I can get back to the command line ...

if you are using Puppy 216 with a pup_save file, Puppy does not seem to cleanly unmount the pup_save or the partition that the pup_save file is on ... see: http://murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=17987 if you modify files on the partition that the pup_save file is on, /mnt/home, and if the ...

a corrupted file system (usually can be fixed with scandisk or chkdsk) can do that too Sounds reasonable but how does that happen? I'm pretty sure I did have to run chkdsk after the .odt episode. Seem to remember opening the trashed file caused a hang. Its a bit hazy now as it was a couple of weeks ...

Hi Will, The flood subsided as fast as it appeared so I think something got unplugged downstream, thanks. I don't think it would have been IE that did the damage, I can only imagine that it was the windoze zip process because the contents of the zip were altered. I didn't realize that linux zip is ...

Hi Flash, I have taken to storing all my working files on a fat32 "data drive" . I havn't heard from my friend yet, but I suspect the zip folder he got will be the same as the zip folder I rescued the less trashed files from. So the stuff in the zip basically reverted to what had been saved the day ...

While we are on the subject of laptops and heat, I have a question. My Dell inspiron 6400 runs fine with the fan coming on when it is working hard ( and sometimes when it isn't doing much). However.... if I leave it for a while and the screen switches off, it is very warm when I come back to it even ...

Windoze trashed my files.

Hi Guys, has anyone had instances of creating files in puppy (Grafpup in my case) and finding that they have been trashed after you opened them in windoze? A couple of weeks ago, I lost a odt file that I accidently opened in windows. Instead of telling me it didnt recognise the format, it seems it ...

Hi John, it is rather strange, as when I scan for the camera, it picks it up as a "usb ptp class camera" and adds it to the list, same as in PCLOS. Not sure what to try now. :(

I guess in the end you could use TEENpup when you need Digikam and Grafpup for other stuff? Hi John, I always have one or other version of puppy as a frugal install and I will be keeping Teenpup, as it has so much stuff in it that I can play with. I have been using PCLOS for digikam, and I will ...

Nathan, I am in teenpup right now and there is a kde directory in /opt with bin, etc, include, lib, sbinand share directories in it. I had wondered whether I could just copy the KDE directory over to /opt in grafpup.

That's interesting....I am still baffled about how 2 files with the same name can get into the same directory?
