What happens if you ignore all the other time settings and use Menu -> Desktop -> Set date and time to show the date and time the way you want? I have been trying for a while now for the clock to display the right time.

I have made sure the timezone is est/edt but it is still 4 hours ahead on the taskbar clock. Hardware clock is set to UTC. I tried Local timezone, but no luck. Is this a bug or is there something I'm missing?

Is there a way to run it as spot? Since it doesn't seem safe running as root, so I don't think I will be using it.

EDIT: I don't want to risk running as root.
