I'm using KDE 3.57 in Puppy 3 now, installed via Gslapt. Basically, I installed all the KDE libs and main KDE files. I couldn't run KDE from the X prompt, it just defaulted to JWM. The way I got into KDE was rather strange. I installed Fluxbox, and it has a menu option for Window Managers, which inc...

I was getting Puppy withdrawal so had to keep trying things.
I got rid of Flash 9 and loaded Flash 7. Been browsing a couple of hours now in Swiftfox and no crashes, yay!
I couldn't find Flash 7 to download from the Adobe web site, but found it here.

Browser crashing is a major problem, I think, that needs to be addressed. I'm using 2.13 and I've experienced crashes with Firefox, Flock and Swiftfox. I had many problems after upgrading to the latest versions of Flash and Java, and followed this post with interest, but haven't found a solution yet...

There's not much software in Linux for genealogy. The easiest to run are probably Java based. If you have Java check this. I've got it running in Suse, but haven't tried Puppy.
Personally, I'm waiting for a web 2.0 browser-based solution. Geni will be the answer once it can import GEDCOM files.

How to adjust time, change backgrounds in KDE ?
I'm using Puppy 2.12 with KDE. Everything works fine except for two little gremlins. The taskbar shows the wrong time. Using "adjust date & time" doesn't work because the time is correct there, just not in display. I also can't change the desktop background through control centre or de...

Data storage and download sites
There are a few sites coming online now that offer lots of free data storage and hosting for file transfers.
One that I'm using called MediaMax offers 25GB free storage.
I just mention it in case anyone wants to set up another site for ISO downloads and dotpups.

I don't really see the point of running in Puppy a Firefox variant that's meant to be used with the Debian package management system for updates... The variant is only meant for Debian in the sense that its free and open source. There is a philosophical debate brewing about whether Firefox is open ...

Iceweasel (GNU Firefox variant)
Lobster touched on this in another post, but to add some detail: A new variation of Firefox has been released called Iceweasel. It is a GNU version of the browser, created to comply with Debian free software guidelines. The Wikipedia entry explains it better. I downloaded the Iceweasel package from ...

Request dotpup of Acrobat 7
Just wondering if anyone is able to make a dotpup for Acrobat 7? I know that v5 is available for Puppy but it's fairly scratchy.

Logitech USB mouse
I'm using a Logitech USB wireless mouse. It works fine and was auto detected in Kanotix.
It works in Puppy, but I have to manually use the mouse wizard each time I startup to select the USB mouse. The setting isn't saved for some reason.
