Re: Chrome-8
Thanks. I installed the Iron-7 pet and this finally got me a browser that doesn't crash. :D I couldn't find the Iron-8 pet in the package manager, but iron 7 works just fine. I have no idea why Firefox, Opera and Seamonkey all crash, nor why more people don't find the same problem. Yes, I found a pa...

Browser Crashes
I'm booting from USB on an IBM T43 with 512meg RAM, and all three browsers (Firefox, Seamonkey, Opera -- have been crashing. The pupsave.sfs is 512 meg. Crashes when I've got more than one tab open -- often the second is gmail Puppy 4.4 doesn't crash, nor have any earlier Puppies, and I've run lots....

Make a script for this?
Bruce
This was very useful. How would I make a script that can sit on the desktop and run this command?

Broadcom wireless not found in 4.4a1
This new version looks great; the changes in pcc look good, the pcc/desktop/trays button works; and the icons in the add icons tray seem to no longer be dropped. But, this new version fails to find my Broadcom wireless; whereas 4.3-2 pre alpha found it immediately. For wireless this version seems to...

Technosaurus, thanks. When I load the Opera10.tcz only one menu entry is created in Puppy -- strangely located in Programs/System... This code in the tce.menu explains why, running from that menu entry I get no mail, but why mail is available when I run Opera from rxvt. But shouldn't the tce.menu co...

I spoke perhaps too soon. I'm running 4.31-2 off of a USB stick. I've loaded Opera from TinyCore, and used sfs_linker to load it, along with what I believe are the necessary dependencies. Opera loads fine, but the menu item for Mail and Chat Accounts is grayed out, so I can't even open a mail accoun...

Thanks, I'll try it when I get home this evening and report back. home now, 10:30, and I am writing this from inside Opera 10.10. Everything works exactly as you said, and as it should Thank you. Running Opera from rxvt, I get the message that libjvm.so and libawt.so from LD_PRELOAD cannot be preloa...

Jrb, Yes, I did recreate the sfs_mnt_home directory -- but on reboot it doesn't pick up the Opera.tcz file. I'm booting off of a usb, and as I have two versions of Puppy there, each in its own subdirectory, I put the .tcz file both in the top layer of the usb (mnt/home) and in the subdirectory (mnt/...

Nicely done -- and I'm happy to report the new Pwireless2 solved my problem with getting DNS in 4.31. This version also for the first time finds my Broadcom card. Thanks. Issues? links to the icon images break the first time I access them. and SFS linker seems not to work properly. At least I've bee...

Jrb, this looks excellent. I have two dumb questions: first -- I'm running the alpha version of Puppy 4.4 (i.e. Pupply 4.31-2) which has SFS Linker installed. Somehow I deleted the sfs_mnt_home folder in ~/my_links on the desktop. How do I restore it? second: will this handle tcz files without modif...

I just loaded the Alpha version of puppy 4.4 (now pup-431-2; and it worked flawlessly. Connected right away. It defaults to using Pwireless to connect. Just to test, I will go back to 4.31, and try Pwireless there, and try the other suggestions. I just tested and the result is conclusive -- running ...

Turning off encryption didn't help. When I try to narrow this down, I start from the fact that the only thing that changed was that I updated to Puppy 4.31. Nothing else changed -- not the router settings, nor the network login from the DHCP clients (the two laptops). So surely something has changed...

DHCP but NO DNS --- AGAIN
This has been a recurrent problem it seems. I been running Puppy off of a USB stick for several years - a happy Puppy. Now, however, in Puppy 4.31 my wireless can't find a DNS server. All earlier versions of Puppy worked flawlessly. I am running two laptops: A Lenovo T43 with an Intel 2915 ABG wirel...

NOP, Thunar, and "default word processor"
Thunar, running in NOP 4.1, looks for a "default word processor" when I try to open a *.doc file. How do get it to recognize Open Office Writer as the default?
thanks.
thanks.

Wireless connection fails
Here are my two posts to the Users forum, which probably belong here: The Network Wizard works fine only the first time I run it. It did when I loaded Alpha 6, and again when I loaded Alpha 7 (both running off of a frugal install on a pendrive). The second time, however, it says it connects, but Sea...

This was useful, but I still havn't solved the problem, nor have I located all the relevant files. I delete /var/lib/dhcpcd-eth1.info, and /var/run/dhcpcd-eth1.pid. By the way, the dhcpcd script is coded to remove the .pid file, and the comment in the script says the .pid file creates problems if it...
