Lapis: I did the F2 Pupfix menu and failed on all counts. It could not find "pfix=ram", "pfix=clean" or "pfix=purge". Apparently the fix files were also corrupt. So much for an "easy" fix. Anyway, being frustrated, I just deleted the sfs and sf2 files. That seemed to have worked. I just have to ...

Zlss; Its a frugal install; supposedly just saving personal preferences etc. I boot from disk. If you boot with the parameter pfix=ram your pupsave will be ignored and you will be restored to a fresh install. I'm not sure how. I'm not that technically oriented. I just create a new pupsave and then ...

Recovery of lost applications from crashes.

I have had 2 crashes from Puppy in the last couple of months. The first removed the applications for the GUI. This was with Puppy 4.1.2. I didn't know how to recover so I moved on to Puppy Lucid 005. Today it lost access to the internet and says it can't find the ADSL modem or connection. I tried ...

Thanks Steve:
At least I know what I am dealing with now. For testing older systems I will have to keep my 4.1.2 copy and I may try the Retro 421. Thanks again.

HD recognition on Pup 4.3?

Could anyone explain why Puppy 4.1.2 will recognize my Samsung SATA PL40 Hard drive while Puppy 4.3 will not. I am using an older motherboard Asus A8V-MX. The only other Distro that I have that found the HD and recoginzes it is Ubuntu (Even Mint won't). I have tried different Sata plug setups, a ...

Ok. First off I like Puppy, but I have had some issues. 1. Loading software packages rarely works for me. Of course this could be my ignorance, but there it is. By comparison, loading packages into Ubuntu or Mint is rather straigtforward and logical. Uninstalling is often difficult also, so I ...

Try this post:
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=41000
Make sure to change (I had to "type" it in) the destination folder for the installation to "usr/lib/seamonkey-1.1.11/" to overwrite or "delete" the old file. Choose to delete it. Then install.

I just checked and after downloading and installing SeaMonkey 1.1.16 I discovered that my version is still 1.1.11. I thought I had done it all correctly but, apparently not. Going back to the download site I found that the only version to download is for i686 machines. I have an i386 machine (AMD ...

Thanks for the reply and info. I really want to have a card that is ASIO compatible with Windoze for my primary music DAW/ application, but also compatible with Linux for internet and general playback. I recently read that the M-audio Delta 44 is good on most Linux Distros and that the OSS4 drivers ...

Does Puppy support onboard ALC889a audio?

I am planning on building a new computer setup and would like the Puppy part of it to support audio. I have tried the emu 0404 without success on my current system. Will the onboard ALC889a chipset on the newer Gigabyte motherboards be recognized? Is there a higher end soundcard (usb or internal ...

Mark thanks! That was it. I really appreciate it. I have two other OP SYStems (Linux Mint and Windoze) I can use for internet access, but I prefer Puppy. I've grown fond of the little tike.
Again thanks.

ADSL config lost. How to (re)connect? (Solved)

I have been using Puppy for almost a year now and have loved it up until now. I tried connecting to the net today and found that it would not connect. I discovered I had accidentally pulled the phone connection from the wall and reconnected the plug, but found I could no longer get a connection with ...
