Handbrake has been updated to 0.9.2
http://handbrake.fr/
One change is the log output is now on stdout rather than stderr though other messages remain on stdterr.
Also it now runs as one process so renice can easily be used to make handbrake less processor dominant.
Finally the binary is 500k less whilst incorporating various improvements.
Oh and it doesn't seem to require glibc 2.4 any more.
I've updated my simple gui which also now uses gtklogfileviewer.

edit... revisited this as soooo useful for backing up a huge pile of friends dvds and discovered the default codec is twice as fast as x264! Still using the olde binary as it has many more options and DVDs have not really changed. I merged the improved gui from mencoder to make something nicer I hope. Should work on anything

What is handbrake?
http://handbrake.fr/HandBrake is an open-source, GPL-licensed, multiplatform, multithreaded DVD to MPEG-4 converter, available for MacOS X, Linux and Windows.
What is Handbrake?????
I'm a loser.
Why don't I ever read before I type?

Why do I miss bits when posting?
I originally mentioned handbrake on another thread so I thought it needed its own to bring up the update...thus I forgot that the subject was, as far as thee rest of the world was concerned, new.
By the way its a really neat application and can do all sorts of tricks and deserves a better gui to make the most of it.
Now where is my spade to get this hole dug really deep.........
