How to use Google Earth from Precise?

#1 Post by coldmonday »

Now that precise is Running, another problem rears its head.

I have downloaded Google Earth. (The .deb version) and although Precise is telling me it has indeed downloaded and resides in My Documents, I can't open it.

I did get a message saying that it wasn't in the menu, and that this was being sorted.

So, how do I use Google Earth from Precise ?

Look in /usr/share/applications for the startup command. The line will start with something like "exec". I'm not sure, if it will work on precise though but if you are using precise consider using jrb's precise light because it is more up to date.

If downloading the .deb from google you need to make sure it is a 32bit version and the latest ones are only 64bit I believe. Also they will probably not work without a few tweaks.

I do have some which are adapted for Puppy here:-

The 7.0.3.8542 version is lighter than the later ones. They may also work but are likely to be slower.

Oscar,

Thanks for that, I'll certainly download and try one of them.

Just as an aside. I'm looking at 44 42.408N,93 31.461E and trying to work out what it is. You need to get down as low as you can while still retaining some kind of definition.

Oscar,

Trying to download one of the Google Earth options from your link. Not having much luck.

Do I have to download the yandex.disk item first ?

I'm doing this from the Seamonkey browser.
