How to make Bionicpup64 look like Bionicpup32? [SOLVED]
Been a long time, but I'm back!
I started playing with Bionicpup on an Intel Centrino/Win7 lappy. I thought I was putting a bionicpup64 on there but instead put on the 32 bit version.
Oops! started seeing version errors and figured out what I did, then put a frugal of the 64 on there and that is what I am posting from now. So cool.
But I liked how the 32 version desktop looks and can't find what manager is being used/why it looks different!
What's the difference on the desktop? I know it is also JWM but is something else running too or is it just super configured differently or what?
Help me out please! And glad to be back!

Configured differently -- go to JWM Desk utility and play.
If you want the Launch Bar, go in that utility to the Options tab, then check Accessory Tray Launch Bar and set that to 12, or 18, depending on what you want.
Go to Launch tab to select the launchers you want in there.
Check out the other tabs to see what you can do to make the desktop the way you like.

Thanks! I can do that. But what about pTheme the theme manager thing...cant find a pet to download in the forum...any ideas? It was real easy to just change themes in that using pTheme.vtpup wrote:Configured differently -- go to JWM Desk utility and play.

Here is the topic on ptheme:

Not sure if you can just install it and it will work OK.
Bionicpup64 8.0 already has stuff to control all of this stuff.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

pTheme is held in Woof-CE on GitHub.....

666philb chose not to include it in BionicPup64......
rootfs-packages items are not routinely made available as .pets and this has been raised before as a problem.....

Transparent Terminal
Thanks all! Gonna keep hacking on gtk and jwm. Looking close to what I want.
But I can't get a transparent terminal, pseudo or otherwise.
Any ideas? A transparency global setting I don't know about?

In the terminal
Tweak away as you like.
Also menu->Utility->Urxvt Terminal Control.
If not in menu.
menu->Desktop->JWMDesk Manager->Menu tab->Menu Manager can add it.
Note:
Borderless setting has bug. Keep it off.

@ steve_s:-
Y'know, personally speaking I customize the hell out of my Puppy desktops. I design the entire thing from scratch; background, homespun 'docks'; I have a huge collection of PNG icons I've amassed from 1000s of Google & DuckDuckGo searches over the years.....and I've rolled pWidgets and gKrellM together into what I call my 'infocentre'.
Graphic design has been a consuming passion of mine ever since schooldays.....more years ago than I care to remember!
This is my 'take' on Bionicpup64:-
[Click to enlarge:-]
Inspiration, perhaps? Or 'food for thought'?
Mike.

Still no transparency on terminals.
Even the ones that show transparency as an option don't show a change in opacity when adjusted, they just get darker or lighter.
I've used urxvt, gnome-terminal, and xfce4-terminal, no dice. I used to use mrxvt on 32bit but I can't get it to run here, elf command errors.
What setting am I missing, people?

If you try using 32bit software in Bionicpup64 8.0
To support 32bit software need to load the 32bit compatibility sfs using Quickpet->Useful
With urxvtcontrol transparency on. Works for me in the urxvt terminal.

hello steve_s
I went and copied the JWM config files from the 32 bit version over to BIonic64 and replaced or called from the 64's jwm config files with the 32 bit version jwm files.
instant 32 bit desktop on the 64..... so I had the minimal desktop icon layout and the 32 bit versions task bar floating on the top!
easy solution and real good guide on how it works

Why is 'root #' in terminal blue?
There is a universal setting I'm missing:
Why is every type of terminal emulator I open have the words:
root #
and they are blue.
Why blue? where is that set at?

Now I'm on the hunt to figure out why that root # in the terminal is blue..ideas?
go to hidden file ->
/root/.bashrc and open it in geany and look for this line :
now if one would change the '34m' to '32m' "root" will be green! there is a chart somewhere that details the number value that corresponds to the color and change to
and the blue will be green
save it and open a terminal to test
anything in the 'PS1=' will modify the terminal command prompt. Look up the .bashrc and the PS1= for further details on the syntax
https://www.thegeekstuff.com/2008/09/ba ... ina-jolie/ is one example.

Code: Select all
PS1="\[\e]2;\w\a\e[34m\]$USER\\$ \[\e[0m\]"
Code: Select all
PS1="\[\e]2;\w\a\e[32m\]$USER\\$ \[\e[0m\]"
Code: Select all
Black 0;30
Blue 0;34
Green 0;32
Cyan 0;36
Red 0;31
Purple 0;35
Brown 0;33
