Facebook is a far better platform for discussing puppylinux when on ones phone. A forum like this is a far better platform when on a PC.puppyluvr wrote: Hello,
"you agree that facebook is not the place where to post for troubleshooting"
I disagree entirely.
Some of Puppy's finest developers are members of my group...
Many of them are members of this forum...
More often than not links to this form are the answer...
Do not forget that my group is an extension of this forum...
I was elevated to moderator of the Puppy Linux Users Group on this forum, but could never find an actual group or page to moderate.
So I created one on Facebook.
Last I checked it was changed to moderator of the Puppy Linux Documentation Project.
That's an exercise in futility....

devs and troubleshooting enter your Facebook,
as soon as you let devs and troubleshooting enter your Facebook, people stop coming, members quantity froze..

Hello,
We average a couple of requests a day.
But we only allow the ones that seem genuinely interested in Puppy Linux.
Ironically, we occasionally get people who are looking for a group about actual puppies.
This generally leads to them being asked whether or not it was made with WOOF!
Or how much RAM that puppy needs to run!

Hello,
Seriously, would you guy`s take off your tinfoil hats and join this group.
Many old school Pupsters are there, but we could use all the help we can get.
This is the front line, the "emergency room" of Puppy Linux...
It is a way to reach the young, the beginner, the new convert...
Especially in the area of specific Puppy releases...
So if you are a developer of a Puplet, and want an almost p2p ability to support it, this is it......
I have waited 10 years for the community at large to recognize the potential this outlet represents.......

I will not do anything on Facebook.
They do not fully support the principle of free speech.
Their choice, but it is my choice not to use them.
Free speech, is your right to say something, I do not like, and my right, to say something, you do not like!
They seem to pick and choose what they allow.
It is not an open forum!
Conservative views, seem to be something they do not like on their Facebook.
Also, anything said on Facebook, seems to just get you in trouble.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

Couldn't agree more, oz. Frankly, it freaks me out, the way so many folks just seem to want to literally "live in each others pockets" all the time. And 99 times out of 100 this is with a bunch of complete strangers you've never even met!ozsouth wrote:Social media overall unnerves me. I signed up for twitter when it first started, thinking it was an open news feed. Dozens of strangers wanted to follow me, so I quit after 2 days. I prefer this focussed, (usually) friendly forum. I wish the PLUG well.
What prompts an individual to want to 'befriend' a total unknown quantity from the other side of this dirtball, simply because a bunch of other strangers encourage you to? I'm sorry, but I just do not understand it.
On top of that, we ALL know what a breeding ground the web is for anonymous self-promotion, narcissism, hate crimes, stalkers, hackers, terrorism, etc, etc.....the list just goes on, and on. Uh-uh. NOT FOR ME.
Nice to know I'm not the only one who feels this way.
Mike.
Names. For example, I have a "friend" on Facebook who added me. His name is identical to mine (first and last). There's nothing untoward in any of it. However, it is quite uncanny. He and I share many of the same interests, are about the same age, have similarly aged kids. He comes from the same area as my grandparents. We're probably 2nd or 3rd cousins. We'd have never "met" if it weren't for Facebook. One day, if I go to the UK (if covid restrictions ever end) we'll probably catch up in person. I don't see that as a bad thing. What prompts an individual to want to 'befriend' a total unknown quantity from the other side of this dirtball, simply because a bunch of other strangers encourage you to? Sure, my Facebook feed has more ads than real friend content these days, so it's not the best thing. But, like most of the rest of the internet, if you do stuff that is sensible, and only go to / participate in things that are reasonable, then there really isn't a lot to have any real concern over.
