Nice work guys!

Thanks guys! Seems to work for all the basics and even printing.
This release is looking good and working well.

@ttuuxxx
Hang in there, guy. You're almost there now. Don't sweat the small stuff, keep life in perspective.

After setting a sidebar background, there is no return, even if setting the sidebar to transparent.
Have to use the desktop background setter to get the original back.

The desktop clock has an interesting feature: double-click with your right mouse-button and it vanishes, does not come back until clock skin, or any other PWidget setting, is updated.

To your first comment, working on it.

To your second, why would you double right click on the clock? I suppose there could be plenty of apps that need a double right click. Are you suggesting this is a bug?

Just thought I would report, for the jwm menu configuration, there is a volume control on the system part of the bar in the bottom right, and also on laptops a battery meter is automatically displayed :D However, the Icewm window manager doesnt have either feature.

Its certainly looking a LOT better than the standard puppy is is sure to make waves when it is released, as long as the major bugs are squished.

Hi ecomoney the volume control is on the left side with icewm, Also the battery meter has to be enabled in the icewm preferences, There is 3 reasons why it isn't.
Reason #1 I don't have a laptop to test it,
Reason #2 I don't like running daemons when They aren't needed at boot, by most users who are running a desktop.
Reason #3 read Reason #1, LOL
ttuuxxx

Ok if you want the battery monitor goto
/usr/share/icewm/preferences , Open it with geany and search for battery (click Search/find)

# Show APM/ACPI/Battery/Power status monitor on task bar
# TaskBarShowAPMStatus=0 # 0/1
and change it to
#Show APM/ACPI/Battery/Power status monitor on task bar
TaskBarShowAPMStatus=1 # 0/1

then go to
# Delay between power status updates (seconds)
# BatteryPollingPeriod=10 # [2-3600]
and change it to
# Delay between power status updates (seconds)
BatteryPollingPeriod=10 # [2-3600]

I think thats all you have to do, I could be wrong, if it doesn't work maybe someone with a laptop could help out a bit further.

Bug report: Pwidgets hung when I clicked "Apply" to add Calender (sic, should be "Calendar") and World Time to desktop, after having previously removed all. I just got the box saying "Working, please wait" and I waited, but never got the widgets, even after I restarted the X server.
It's stupid to use inferior software for ideological reasons.

I thought we were looking at a "Puppy Shutdown Dialog" and not a ttuuxxx or aragon shutdown dialog. In fact the Shutdown dialog is actually disciple's shutdown dialog according to the following quote from ttuuxxx.
Yes if we look back disciple's was first no doubt, Thats funny also I totally forgot about his version. My version is not related to his code, I can assure you that, How I built my version was during the building of living water and I was making ttuuxxxTV, and also the Faith menu, I used Barry's /usr/sbin/wizardwizard as the example I went off, Kind of trial and error, I also searched the web for icewm commands and went with that. If you compare my earlier releases and /usr/sbin/wizardwizard they are very similar, If you compare my earlier versions to disciple's you will notice they aren't, Man I wish I would of remember disciple's version it would of saved me a lot of search, plus his version is more advanced via coding than my version, a little bling and his version would of been perfect. Anyways, enough of the distractions aragon version is a direct ripoff in the same release, all he had to do is say that he altered my version for use in jwm and that would of been it, instead of trying to steal it from under me feet.
He has shown zero respect for one of his colleagues, and doing so, I just don't feel good about this project anymore. I bent over backwards trying to make people happy on here and I find it a kick to head when someone does what he as done. I'll stick out the Cups thing and maybe any icewm issues, but don't expect much more from me than that.

When I try to install additional pets using the install pet menu, all sources fail to download and install the selected pet.
My wireless internet connection works fine with ndiswrapper so I know it is not an internet connection problem.
Anyone else have problems installing additional pets using install?

Thats because the repo hasn't been updated yet, Just the package list has. WhoDo will have to get the keys from Barry's server soon and upload the packages.

Thanks for your explaination Ttuxxx, and your description. I think the way of getting bar working would be a little too complex for most people. Im happy to test on the Secretaries laptop...Ive just managed to destroy my CF-18 toughbook.

The kill-process command is also missing from the icewm right-click menu in icewm, but not jwm. I did manage to get it going in icewm in ecopup but cant remember how.

On a more serious note...I cant seem to get any video files to play (avi and mp4 are the only ones I tested). I get sound but just a blue screen in Gxine. Has anyone else noticed this. Puppy 4.2 cannot ship without a working video player its an essential.

Tried this current computer, its got some strange onboard sapphire chipset. Here is my xorg.conf file if it helps.

Ok next to the volume control is a file folder, click on that folder and you'll have a list of 12 items one is called 'kill process' its actually Pprocess, but thats whats the general name for it, also another hidden location to find it is, Left click on the freememory applet icon it will list 3 items,Help, ttuuxxView,Manage running process. that should help.

As for your Gxine problem, run it via the command line, and report the errors, maybe someone on here might help with that, I'm currently finishing up icewm and cups issues only and well thats it, I've wasted enough time with this back stabbing project. Funny theres only a small number of people who probably could get Gxine working properly, Hairywill, but he's on R&R, Myself, Barry but he's on a new distro, disciple but he's not contributing much to the project, I would say aragon but for him to do it, I would first have to release the fix and then out of the blue it would come to him how he could do it, But since I'm not, might as well count him out to, lol Maybe pizzasgood, he's pretty cluey :)

Could be widgets, the clock itself, Rox-Filer, or even Jwm for all I know. But, IMHO, it's always better to be aware of unexpected features.

It's not a bug. It's a feature of xonclock. You are right, people should know, I'll write something on the wiki.

To give a short answer to this ongoing abuse: No i didn't steal his code.

Why?
I don't need to. The first version i posted was an updated one of the shutdown-menu i use daily for i think about 18 month.

Does it have similarities to other scripts of this kind?
Sure, it's a very short way from A to B.

Why does the second version has tabs like the icewm-shutdown?
for consistency-reasons.

So you stole his code at this time?
No. The tabs are called notebook and an example could be found in every devx at /usr/share/doc/gtkdialog3/examples/12.00-notebook

thats all.

Seconded. Ptimer doesn't work because pstopwatch is missing.

Using live cd, and I updated a spare 412 pup-save, so as to not have to re-install my printer driver, which comes as a deb.

I like it! Very nice looking, and everything that I use works (that's not much by the way- just browsing and word processing). EXCEPT!!!!!-

CUPS does not like my printer .ppd, the log shows "missing product from canonpixus950i.ppd". I suspect that the driver is now quite old, and whilst it works with older cups versions, this version doesn't like it.

It's of academic interest to me, but also the Gutenprint drivers don't show up when I go to install my printer, just a few odd-ball drivers.

Also, on previous Puppies, the Canon drivers that I installed used to show up on the list of drivers, intermingled with the Gutenprint ones- they don't now.

So.... back to 412, and the old cups that I installed there.

Oh, and another thing- it ain't Puppy without the seagull! (OK, just joking)

Finally, while I'm typing this the cursor keeps jittering- quite distracting.

Keep up the good work.......

Hi Gerry no need to go back to 4.1.2 if you want to lend a hand :)
Where are your gutenprint drivers located? do you have a file you could upload here? if its small enough I might be able to include them.
thanks for your help

Shut-down

#119 Post by straypup »

Has anyone besides me had a shut-down problem(black screen0 when shutting down from an ICEwm session. jwm works fine, but I get black screen in ICEwm. My monitor indicator light also changes from green (normal on indication), to orange (no input signal). Is this a known problem with a solution or have I found a new 4.2 bug? Only way to recover is pressing Off and restarting. If it helps I am running live on a Compaq 5002us 1 gig swap 512 memory AMD Duron 800.
Thanks stray

I have an acer X193W lcd monitor (1440x900) and an intel 82946 video card. Xorg crashes the computer as soon as the wizard finishes. Xvesa works but is too blurred. How can I get xorg working?

In Unnamed its the opposite except that xorg is usable because it's less blurred.
