Wait, so does this mean I can't use my OxygenOffice_420 or Wine_420 on this?

Code: Select all

Run unsquashfs OxygenOffice_420.sfs then mksquashfs tempfolder
Is that what I have to do to make them work here?

Bummer, 64 bit didnt finish

#42 Post by Aung »

Useing kernel src 2.6.29.1-smp_420.sfs coppied into /usr/src with hairy willies 'cp -ax +kernel src 2.6.29.1-smp_420.sfs/* /usr/src'
following the masters orders I got through #make clean #make mrproper.
At this point "Copy the .config file for Puppy into /usr/src/linux-2.6.xx.x" I choose aragon's DOTconfig and changed it to .config for I figured its already configured for smp.
Then I took this from debians .config
CONFIG_64BIT=y
# CONFIG_X86_32 is not set
CONFIG_X86_64=y
CONFIG_X86=y
CONFIG_ARCH_DEFCONFIG="arch/x86/configs/x86_64_defconfig"
and replaced Puppys 32 bit. then ran # make menuconfig useing this from the master.
At the top-level menu there is a menu entry to save the configuration -- ignore that. Just press TAB key (or right-arrow key) to highlight Exit "button" then press ENTER key -- it will then ask if you want to save the new configuration, and you answer yes.

Ripper! # make bzImage did its job
Ripper! # make modules started rolling, (well, untill the 20th minute, the screen went black, scared the shit'a out of me, that aint supposed to happen, have the sreeen saver unchecked, the penny dropped and I hit the space bar) It rolled on till the 25th min. bugger, stopped at this line.
IHEX firmware/cpai2/stv06_vp4.bin
The # appeared like it was finished but it wasnt, end of experiment, no 64 bit Puppy. Well not just yet, what went wrong? Aung

It did not recognize my ext4 partition. It failed to mount it properly when I clicked on the icon.

Also, BarryK will be using 2.6.29.2 for puppy 5, not 2.6.29.1. He said so on his blog.

@ gabe
ext4: this is possible, although barry configured the kernel with ext4-support, the tools in 4.2 might need an upgrade.
2.6.29.2: i will go this way parallel if he takes that route, to add smp-support to a future woof-based standard-puppy.
sfs:
Wait, so does this mean I can't use my OxygenOffice_420 or Wine_420 on this?
true, see first post. to rebuild an sfs see MU's post.

@ aung
sorry no idea. don't know anything about 64-bit.

@ Béèm
cups: this is the standard of 4.2. see first post for a cups-link that helped DaveS with cups-problems.
xsane: it's standard 4.2 xsane/sane. Have you tested it there? I just saw a package with epson-scanner-topic in the software-section. Maybe that is of help for you...

@ janeee & Jim1911
i've attached a firmware-pet. Please test it and report back if this cures your networking-problems. Please test with pfix=ram (no save-file)!!!

@ Raffy & Béèm
sq4-Hosting: Barry posted about packages for woof in this post:
http://www.puppylinux.com/blog/?viewDetailed=00701

An alternative would be to contact caneri.

@ ALL
I've an actual problem: The lack of time. I will be nearly complete absent until beginning of june. I will have a look at the forum from time to time, but will not be able to submit anything 'productive'.

so if i'm not responding, this is the only reason.

after the absent i'm planing to rebuild the kernel (which barry chooses for 5.0) with smp-support. till then i hope to have more power-saving options to use for the rebuild. As everything/averyone seems to concentrate on 5.0 (based on woof), i will do so too and focus on an alternative kernel for the standard 5.0. Maybe barry reconsiders his decision to use an non-smp-kernel than this would not be needed.

Does anyone know if I am on the right track the way I went about the .config file. It seems as if it wants to work, at least it starts rolling. Aung

aragon,

Your firmware_k2.6.29.1smp.pet solved my problem connecting to the network. Thank you for correcting this problem, although I know that your time is limited. Now I'll enjoy checking your derivative out and report back.

I also tried your firmware update with Barry's upup-466 which was giving me the same problem and it corrected upup also. I'll post a link on the upup-466 bug topic.

Thanks,
Jim

USB Keyboard not working in 4.2 SMP

#47 Post by zicozico »

Hi,

On my Quad core the USB keyboard is not working when I boot into 4.2 SMP 2.6.29.1. :cry:

When I hook up another (non-usb) keyboard, I can type normally (on that non-usb keyboard)

The usb keyboard is working with any other puppy or other OS I tried.

Any suggestions? More people having the same problem?

I still have the same error, network connection only works in 30 minutes then I have to use the Network Wizard for it to work again.

@Max Headroom

You will find the kernal source pointed to on the first page of this post. Its in the same place as the iso was.

You will also need the devx_420.sfs as well.

Have fun and please report back as to your progress.

@ janeee
strange error. don't understand the 30-minute problem.

please try if it work, with setup from commandline.

assuming your netcard is eth0

1. Activate your interface:

Code: Select all

ifconfig eth0 up
2. Retrieve a dynamic ip

Code: Select all

dhcpcd -t 30 -h puppypc -d eth1

that's the way i would try it but as posted before i don't know what more is needed. maybe there are also workarounds needed to compile a 64bit-kernel on a 32bit-system.

I am new to Linux so do not rely too much on my tests, this was the result of your last proposal.

Info. eth1: dhcpc 3.1.8 starting
Error, eth1: ioctl SIOLGIFHWADDR: No such device
Info, eth1: exiting

I still have the same problem, the connection worked now in 45 minutes.

Having some trouble compiling Qjackctl. I have the devx and kernel headers. It's looking for Alsa headers and not finding them when I go to ./configure. Any ideas?
