configuring wireless phone as modem

#1 Post by Jackm »

I am trying to set up my LG CU500 cell phone to work with Puppy Linux. I have all the settings from the ISP. But nobody knows what to fill in for the Serial Modem Device File in the PGPRS Modem Set Up.

Does anybody know how to do this?

Thanks.

Usually a module is needed to recognise the phone as a modem...my LG uses option so
modprobe option
in a terminal ...then a modem device will appear in wvdial an you can usually connect with your settings

You phone may or may not use the same module and also depends on whether you are using bluetooth or usb cable.

I'm no expert but thats the basic idea...

Thanks, Mike.. You pointed me in the right direction. I was trying to use the GPS modem set up. But I discovered that the Internet Modem set up module did the trick and found the phone. I already knew what the ISP settings were. so now it works.

Thanks.
