Keyboard language indicator for taskbar (IceWM)

#1 Post by vovchik »

Dear Puppyphiles,

I have searched for a suitable taskbar indicator that would dock in the system area of the IceWM taskbar. Xxkb does work, but I don't know how to get it to fit into the ice system area. As a kluge, I modified the geometry setting in XXkb (config file) so it ovelays the CPU activity indicator. (a yucky solution). Does anybody have experience with xxkb and IceWM? I think it would be useful if Puppy came with a keyboard indicator, since most of us are using small and fast WMs that don't come with this useful feature preinstalled (unlike GNOME and KDE).

With thanks in advance and kind regards,
vovchik

PS. The pixmaps shipped with xxkb are miminal (UK, RU, UA and BY), so I had to create DE on my own.

Hello, Vovchik!
I use a Lucid Puppy 5.1.1 now and try to add a keyboard layout indicator too. Did you successfully made this?

I've seen that PuppyRus have that indicator in a taskbar, but still haven't an idea how to add it to my system.

Dear Alexey,

I use fbxkb. When using IceWM, you have to load icewmtray first - e.g. as a startupscript or by linking in the Startup folder and then start fbxkb &.

It works fine and there is a pet of it on Puppyrus and here, too, somewhere.

With kind regards,
vovchik

Thank you. Now I've the fbxkb installed in my system, how to do this is described here: http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=39298

I don't use an IceWM, although it may be a cool stuff.
