What puppy versions can I use with Qemu?

#1 Post by van »

Hi

I´m currently using puppypc 2.6.21.5 with Qemu to use puppy from a USB wihin windows.

Is there any other puppy version I can use with Qemu? I haven´t found anything else.

Thanks

I've been able to run all versions of Puppy in Qemu in Linux

The problem is with the video adapter, Puppy doesn't include the one
which would support Xorg so you Xvesa.

If you look you can find two Vesa video adapter modes, one giving more
MB, I think eight compared with four. If you can figure it out, then you'll
do better with it.

In either event you will do fine with the Vesa adapter.

If you were using Linux you could compile it yourself.

With Windows you probably don't have the compiler, so you will have to
use something someone else pre-compiled for you.

Haven't not used Qemu in Windows, I'm curious if anyone knows how to
mount the HD images in Windows?

Well, I´m a begginer on this, so I try to understand how everything works!

Anyway, in the attached picture you can see all the files I have in my usb. I can start puppy within linux executing puppy.sh, or within windows executing puppy.exe.

Is there a way to run a newer puppy verion just replacing some files there? Is there somewhere some already-made-usb-puppy-version just ready to download and use?

Thanks!!!!!

You are not using Qemu in the way I thought you were.

Eric's package is good, innovative and dated.

You need to read careful.

I tried to understand all his logic and how he did it. My basic method was
to read carefully AND disassemble it AND modify it with newer software.
But I didn't have Windows.

I had limited success and failure. I have ten years on Linux and a lot of
experience on Qemu running on Linux. I say this, because his package
would be a tough one to fully understand for a beginner. It is more
complex than a 'typical' Qemu install and a masterpiece in a variety of
ways.

It is a good one for using and enjoying.
