Xserver randomly restarts or freezes

#1 Post by walter90 »

My xserver will sometimes randomly restart and sometimes , but not near as often, freezes.
These are relatively new developements.
I don't want to go replacing stuff until I have some idea of where to go to diagnose the problem.
What should I check first?

» First a full filesystem check.

» If crashes occur when browsing only or more
often, empty the cache.

» A fresh /etc directory might help

» What I'm really suspicious of is hardware in your
case. As in, its time for cleaning fans and a
squish and seat of cards.

If I can more give specific help, sure, but please, when replying,
tell computer type, RAM, Puppy version and Puppy install type.

I'm leaning toward hardware too. I don't have internet at home so it's not a browser issue. As far as cleaning, it's a notebook (I'll give all the specs tomorrow as I am not at my puter now. I have the schematics from HP but it's going to be a chore to clean some of it.

This is what I know atm.

HP Pavillion ze5600
RAM-my memory says it's in excess of 400 but the original came with only 256. I'll provide accurate numbers tomorrow.
Puppy 4.2
Frugal install (flash drive)
