No sound from speakers [SOLVED]
Hello Everyone!
I am just new to Puppy and I have a problem with my sound device. The system detects the device but no sounds can be heard considering the fact that I can't adjust the volume of the speakers from Retrovol.
I have also tried alsaconf but still it won't fix my problem.

Thanks for the response, but unfortunately I have tried those already and it does not solve my problem.
The weird thing is that I cannot adjust the volume of speakers in retrovol.
Anyway, I was thinking, would installing wary puppy will fix it? Since wary is better when dealing with older hardware compared to lucid.

You should always report what hardware you have, what software, how you run/install puppy, which one.
You give too few information and you' re confusing people to start threads with quasi the same subject.

This is my sound device: Intel HDA sound card (ATI Sbx00 Azalia)
In wary puppy, it works properly.
While in lucid puppy, there is no sound but the device is detected and the sounds of the speaker is set to zero in retrovol and cannot be increased.
Then when running, alsa and upon choosing the proper sound card, there is still no sound output from the device.
My computer is an All in one PC, Gateway ZX2300.
AMD Athlon 2650e (1.6 ghz)
1gb ddr2
160gb HDD
18.5" LCD
Audio System with subwoofer.
ATI X1200 Radeon Graphics
Moving on, my other problem is that xorgwizard does not work on wary puppy when I am booting it on my pc, therefore I just use xvesa but I prefer a better resolution since on lucid, xorgwizard functons properly is able to detect my X1200 radeon graphics.
Now, all I want is to either fix the issues on lucid or wary, puppy works great on my pc, however there are some small issues
Lucid on my PC: works great but no sound. xorgwizards functions well with my x1200 radeon
Wary on my PC: works great, has sounds but xorgwizard does not support my onboard graphics.
I hope you can help me guys, thanks Woof!

RIZARDOUZ7 ,
Lets come to an agreement, as you don't get the message yet.
This is the thread about no sound in Lucid.
No other problem is considered here.
Don't mix problems in one thread.
What version of Lucid?
How operated/installed?
Make screenshots of the things you see on your PC, so we can see also.

In your screen shot. Is that what shows after hitting the F5 Key?
Mine as a example in Puppeee after hitting F5.
Your speaker control is turned all the way down also.

Well yup, the other stuffs are unnecessary like the ones for mic since my main problem is sound output from the speakers.
Yup the volume is turned down at default, and I can't increase it by pressing up arrow. Anyway, on wary puppy, this works properly. But I want to fix this issue on lucid. Since I have another issue with Wary which is the orgxwizard.
Anyway, this thread is for my sound device problem on lucid.

@dale thanks for the reply.
Unfortunately, I did what you said and nothing happens. The volume still does not increase.
What really bugs me is both Lucid and Wary detects the same device but in Lucid there is not sounds and the volume of the speakers are set to zero and cannot be increased .
Perhaps it is a matter of drivers? Since wary supports older hardware, ok this might be off topic but like I have mentioned earlier on lucid, xorgwizard properly configured my x1200 radeon onboard graphics while on wary only xvesa works and it seems xorg does not support my graphics device.
I am stuck on these two problems, if only I can solve any of this two problems, I can therefore move on and use one type of puppy.
My PC on Lucid:no sounds but xorg works, while on Wary: sounds work but xorg does not support my video card.

Can you edit the post with that wide picture.
Pictures in this forum, when embedded, should be max 600 wide.
Yours is too wide.
Also you haven't replied how you operate/installed the Lucid.

I installed lucid normally by booting it from a usb. I am definitely sure that it has nothing to do with the installation since lucid works fine with my laptop. The only issue is that on my desktop, the volume of the speakers cannot be adjusted no matter what.
I want to know why does my sound device function properly on wary while on lucid not. They both detect the same device, is there any way for me to uninstall the device from alsa? then reinstall it? or a way to update the drivers?
As for the picture, I'll just post the link, too lazy to resize it .

Update: While searching on google, I found this solution that people did to fix their problem with the realtek sound device.
#cat /proc/asound/card0/codec#0 | grep Codec
Codec: Realtek ALC262
Start up a terminal (Applications > Accessories > Terminal) and add the following line to /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf like so:
#sudo nano /etc/modprobe.d/alsa-base.conf
Enter your password to proceed. At the end of the file, add the following line:
Can you help me execute the solution? How do I add the following line?

RIZARDOUZ7,
When you come here for advice, follow the forum etiquette, thus if a question is asked, just answer it. It is not up tp you to decide if the question is or is not related to your situation. This may deter people of wanting to help you.
See one of your replies earlier.
Now for you latest post.
Sudo is not used in puppy, you are in root.
Nano doesn't exist in puppy. To edit a file geany is used.
Or simple click on the file while in rox.
It isn't clear also what you have to add at the end of the file.
As far as I see, you didn't mention it.
It is good that you look also for solutions, but if you find such, reference the URL you found.

Sorry about that, anyway somehow I was able to fix the xorg problem in puppy wary. Therefore, I decided to use wary. The xorg problem in wary 5 only happens when I select a high resolution like 1366x768 in the beginning, but when I chose a lower resolution, xorg was able to load normally and then the best part is I was able to adjust the resolution with no problems with my card's maximum supported resolution which is 1366x768.

There is a bug in Xorg Wizard prior to Wary 5.1.3, in which the resolution choice in the Wizard is 1360x768, not what it should be 1366x768. This may have caused your problem.RIZARDOUZ7 wrote:Sorry about that, anyway somehow I was able to fix the xorg problem in puppy wary. Therefore, I decided to use wary. That bug is fixed in Woof, so Wary 5.1.3 and most recent Slacko (Slack Puppy) have the fix.
You will probably find that your sound works in Slacko also?

WOW! Thanks sir, I am going to download the latest wary now.
Perhaps you are right, since there are some bugs in 5.1.2. Anyway, I haven't tried slacko yet, also I am happy with wary, the only thing that I need to work on is making my mic work on skype .
