How to use Franklin U210 EVDO wireless modem? SOLVED

#1 Post by stilanube »

I think I need to get the right module loaded first. Can anyone tell me what module works?

Would appreciate any ideas at all.

No idea .
Reading the logs i can say that the option module got loaded .
My huawei usb WAN modem works with the option module .

/dev/usb/ttyUSB0 would be in my case ok , except if i attach a usb-to-serial-converter and the converter module pl2303 would load before option the dev would be /dev/ttyUSB1 .

You may read here :
http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?t=74203
You said "It should "ttyUSB0" instead of "ttyS0".
Yessssss!!!! thats the answer.
In my case it's "ttyACM0" and its showing in top of the Internet connection wizard.
The logs of yours are mentioning

Script Allusbserial: 14:04:13 - No modem found yet.
Script Allusbserial: usbserial module is loaded.
Script Allusbserial: No ttyHS modem found, so continuing.
Script Allusbserial - MODEM: 'ttyUSB0' DEVLISTUSB: 'ttyUSB0 ttyUSB4' DEVMLIST: 'ttyUSB0 ttyUSB1 ttyUSB2 ttyUSB3 ttyUSB4 ttyUSB5'

Thank you, Karl. Using ferro10n`s "How to use mobile GPRS Internet in Puppy", I learned the modem is seen at ttyACM0, and I`m attaching the output from clicking on the Choose and then the Probe button in the Internet Connection Wizard:

Scanning your serial ports for a modem.

Port Scan<*1>: Scanning ttyACM0 first, /dev/modem is a link to it.
ttyACM0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 Z -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: Modem Identifier: ATI -- Manufacturer: Franklin Wireless Corp.
ttyACM0<*1>: Speed 4800: AT -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: Speed 9600: AT -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: Speed 19200: AT -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: Speed 38400: AT -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: Speed 57600: AT -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: Speed 115200: AT -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: Speed 230400: AT -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: Speed 460800: AT -- OK
ttyACM0<*1>: Max speed is 460800; that should be safe.
ttyACM0<*1>: ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0 -- OK

Found an USB modem on /dev/ttyACM0, using link /dev/modem in config.
Modem configuration written to /etc/wvdial.conf.

*** WARNING! Line "115200"
in /etc/ppp/options may conflict with wvdial!

ttyACM0<Info>: Speed 460800; init "ATQ0 V1 E1 S0=0 &C1 &D2 +FCLASS=0"

At this point I seem to be stuck, because I don`t have the APN for Openmobilepr. Do you think I`m on the right track?

You may probably run pgprs-shell AND after that pgprs-connect because it is simpler than pupdial .

pgprs-shell installs pgprs-setup and pgprs-connect .

It is the gprs-icon in the connectwizard gui .

Dont bother though named gprs it works for 3G modems and their speed .

It uses pppd directly while pupdial uses wvdial to start pppd .

I think the apn is simply ^ internet ^ .

My APN are ^ internet.t-mobile ^ OR ^ web.vodafone.de ^ .

Sorry I haven`t stayed right on top of this. I can only get online some of the time because Starband Satellite only works some of the time.

I tried your suggestions for APN, but with no joy.

In the file named wvdial.conf.txt, in pmodemdiag-20111229, I noticed a line:

#To list all the APNs stored in the modem, uncomment the Init8 line; check the Connection status log for lines beginning with +CGDCONT:. =

Can you tell me where this Init8 line is? And where is the Connection status log?

Here`s how.

I tried this in Puppy 525, from a CD, just as it is, with no lupusave file, just so you know.

Boot without the modem plugged in. If you boot with it in, Puppy will see it as a storage device, and then you can access the connection software that automatically loads onto a Windoze machine. Maybe you can make it work in Wine or something?

Plug the modem in.

Right-click Connect.

Click on Execute Internet Connection Wizard.

Click on Internet by dialup analog or wireless modem. The PupDial modem Internet dialer should come up.

Click Choose. The PupDial modem selection window should come up.

Click Probe. The Internet dialer should reappear. My Franklin u210 EvDO usb modem showed up at ttyACM0. You may have to click Choose, then Probe more than once.

In Account 1, under Phone/Access number, put in your APN, in my case for Openmobilepr, #777.

Click CONNECT.

Watch out! Nothing much happens, but in the terminal window the last line should say "Carrier detected. Waiting for prompt." After 30 seconds, you should be online. Blinky will lose the X.

The hardest part of this was getting the APN. I went to the Openmobile store and asked for a demo of the connection software. Under "settings" are listed the connection data, including the APN.
