thanks green_dome, this is very nice of wine and the most update of wine i ever see.. i follow every update of your wine.

thank you green_dome..

G'day green_dome,
Thanks for persevering with wine through all its versions.
I have just run the latest pet - wine-1.5.6 - and got a couple of error messages related to firstly "gecko" and then "mono" (which latter I hadn't seen before).
The gecko message (that I should download the gecko engine) surprised me as I had downloaded the recommended latest gecko as per the Wine Wiki and copied it (wine_gecko-1.6-x86.msi) to /usr/share/wine/gecko before running a wine program.
The Wine Wiki says I needed:
wine-1.5.0 - wine-1.5.5 = wine_gecko-1.5-x86.msi
wine-1.5.6 - current = wine_gecko-1.6-x86.msi
When I added the older gecko (wine_gecko-1.5) to /usr/share/wine/gecko, the gecko-needed message did not appear and the program needing this seemed to run.
So I'm a bit puzzled about the numbering of wines and geckos and wonder if anyone else has had a similar problem.
The "mono" message I hadn't seen before, but I found the Wine Wiki page on this quite large additional file 'wine-mono-0.0.4.msi'(~40MB) now required for programs using MS's .Net system.
Perhaps your standard post about each wine version pet could now also mention somewhere near your gecko message, a possible need to download the "mono" msi - or add an extra link to its Wiki:
http://wiki.winehq.org/Mono
Again, I'd like to hear if anyone else has seen a similar first-run message with wine-1.5.6.
And which MS programs or types of program would need the Mono .msi installed?
Thanks,
David S.

wine v. 1.5.8
Dear green_dome,
Sorry to bother you at the height of the northern hemisphere summer (vacation time and all that), but there is now Wine 1.5.8 out there: http://www.winehq.org/announce/1.5.8. Any chance that you might make a nice pet?
With thanks in advance and kind regards,
vovchik

I second that!
Q: Are the binaries out there runnable with the puppies they are built from? For example if there is a Slackware binary would that work properly on Puppy Slacko or should I look into compiling it?
I really appreciate the work your doing Green D!

wine-menu pet
I'm only an occasional wine user, so I don't want the puppy menus being littered with wine entries....
So I've made a small pet to tidy things up - available here.
Cheers

Thanks for the menu. Works fine in Lucid, and the mess is gone:)

We have another version (1.5.9), with lots of improvements in the x-server part (http://www.winehq.org/announce/1.5.9). Many thanks in advance.

You've got the closing parentheses inside the URL close tag:
Swap the closing parentheses with the bracket in that URL tag, and it shouldn't blank the post, anymore.

I know this was posted a while ago, but think you mean can you use the slackware files from wine to install same in puppy, I have been doing this for a while now, and it seems to work fine, but you need to install pkgtools-13.37.pet first, then useJames186282 wrote:I second that!

I really appreciate the work your doing Green D!
installpkg wine-1.5.8-i486-1sg.txz to install
You will not get the fancy menu entries that green_dome provides
I use this for the train sim openBVE, I also use the new mono installer that turned up a few versions ago, as it needs .net, and I swear it works better in Linux / wine, than in windoz
@green_dome I still vist here to check on things, and your continued effort to make a ready to go version available is admirable, thank you Very much, I take my hat off to you.
