easily submit at http://linux.softpedia.com/ between big boy
If the ranking is not the deal, but creating bigger circle of users, and, possible new devs, why not encourage devs to submit their new derivatives at

It does not require any organization or hard work.

As much as I'd like Lobster and playdayz to be here, "+1" and "voting" won't bring them back. Instead, if anyone has their contacts (I don't), perhaps try dropping an email (or a call) to them.
The way I see it - just set up a simple blog site (sjpplog is good), one that mere mortals can write with without knowing HTML or anything. Link this blog from one of puppy linux flagship, or even better if the blog is part of puppy linux flagship website (this link is important, without the link then the blog is not "authoritative" and may as well come from any random Joe Bloggs).
Then we need people who are willing to write bite-sized one-two paragraphs (50 words or so) story once every two days or so. Great if this person is technical minded, but nothing is lost if he/she isn't (in fact, probably it's better if he/she's not because then he/she can write in a simpler manner). The main thing is that this person must be active enough in the forum to know what's going on, and is willing to ask the people involved for information if he/she doesn't understand what is it.
Note that there is no need to write code or HOWTO; if these are necessary to explain the concept then just link back to the appropriate forum threads.
Of course, give account to 01micko, 666philb and the rest of the puppy builders too in case they have something to say.
A few example stories just from the recent forum entries.
- ttuuxxxx, the author of popular FireHydrant puppy is back. What does he have in store?
- new features: save to folder - what is it?
- new features: save to folder - how it can benefit you
- new features: save to folder - coming to a puppy near you!
- new features: save to folder - how to get it working in your older puppy
- routermaker: using your puppy as a (wifi) router
- qemu-gui: puppy better way of testing ISOs
- Debian-Dog: a different kind of Puppy
- Skype: Puppy's solution to Skype conundrum
- Barry is back! And he's bringing a unicorn with him!
- I removed my partition table: Puppy and testdisk to the rescue!
- Do you know that mtpaint maintainer is a resident of puppy's forum?
- Slacko64 - puppy paves way to 64-bit.
- Tahrpup - beta xxx released, now with these changes.
- Petbuilder - forging the Puppy's future with fully automated build systems
etc, etc, etc, you've got the idea, and I am *not* even active in the forum.
I heard Bob the Builder ask: "Can we build this"?
EDIT: typo.

Basically you are talking about what was done at puppylinux.org
Not sure why it is not keeping up with the latest news or Puppy releases.
That web site already has the name puppylinux.
If there is a way to support it, we should. Just not sure who to contact and what help they would allow.
As for Barry K and relying on him for anything.
He walked away from Puppy and basically stated the community is now in charge .
The Puppy community is now in charge.
However, there is no one steering the boat.

Based on comments he has made. I do not think it will be anything but a beta quality release with no bug fixing or support by him.looks like we are going to get a BK release in a month or so based on his blog.
The Puppy community is now in charge.
However, there is no one steering the boat.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

About puppylinux.org
raffy wrote:Yes, the link given by bigpup is where users can write contributed articles. Once made authors, the contributors can even update the pages.
The other community-updated site is the wiki, which Distrowatch links to.
Anyway, I will be happy to point the community or news links to where you pool contributed content.
BTW, both puppylinux.com and puppylinux.org are Barry's domains. If they expire, that will be the end of those sites, so this initiative is good.
Maybe contributors should now go to wikipedia?

If you are looking for a Barry-clone, is very unlikely.bigpup wrote: The Puppy community is now in charge.

Otherwise grab the helm.
What jamesbond describes can be done by several people in this forum with almost daily presence.
Being a new slick blog of good-old puppylinux.org does not make a difference.
Just do it.

Excellent, thank you bigpup! Just two things:bigpup wrote:About puppylinux.org

- I went to puppylinux.org, and there is no link to puppylinuxnew.org (just need to add the link from the main page, or even better put an IFRAME in puppylinux.org that contains pupppylinuxnews.org, perhaps?) and/or from the wiki (which is linked from distrowatch).
- and then as mavrothal said, just go and do it - post!

Is puppylinuxnews.org also owned by Barry?
However puppylinuxnews is powered by sNews whose latest release was in 2011. To me it looks just fine, but it may have security issues may not be so mobile friendly.
I would love to give back to the community for the great fun had in these years, but I'm not a native English speaker and haven't been *active* on the forum. Nevertheless, I have a look every day since quite a few years, since... well, it's fun! I could help if needed.
The link is at the top-right corner, under the revealing name of "news" , but the frame linking to the latest news would be pretty cool.- I went to puppylinux.org, and there is no link to puppylinuxnew.org (just need to add the link from the main page, or even better put an IFRAME in puppylinux.org that contains pupppylinuxnews.org, perhaps?) and/or from the wiki (which is linked from distrowatch).

These are good ideas. Is there someone with the skills to be a 'co-ordinator' who could review the multiple submitted articles and arrange them in a tidy way? (To avoid a visual dogs breakfast, and to release articles periodically rather than 10 one week and none the next)jamesbond wrote:A few example stories just from the recent forum entries.

.
If I was a potential newcomer evaluating Puppy I would probably be drawn in by seeing some clear subdivisions of the information like maybe:
1) Info about the 'primary' puppies - the 'LTS' or most supported ones - so that I know I'm not taking too much of a risk by sampling these.
2) Information about more radical, adventurous, special purpose 'testing' puppies - so that I know I'm having fun and trying risky new stuff just for the heck of it
3) HowTos, tutorials etc related to application usage.
Sure, all of these things are available on Murga, but maybe what we want is a way to dress up the 'home page' with just a tasty portion of that rather than the whole nine yards?
news site
puppylinuxnews.org is linked to the top links of puppylinux.org.
This news site has been misbehaving for sometime, and I guess server support is having difficulty with its ageing mysql version.
I therefore used the server default install of wordpress, which you should see now.
To comment about the site, please go to Puppy Linux Home Page discussion.

It may need some configuration as it sits on top "droed.net" and a lot of links point to droed.net/puppylinuxnews_org/*

Hmm, its url must be
puppylinuxnews.org
Probably a matter of cache (Wordpress says super-cache is available, so I should turn this feature off for now.)

It still has issues with links.raffy wrote:Hmm, its url must be

Now, also it does not display well too (across different bowsers and OSs)
I guess it needs some more configuring.
