If you are not going to submit bug reports to WineHQ, I recommend packages that are 'stripped=true'
If you are going to submit bug reports to WineHQ, I recommend packages that are 'stripped=false'
When submitting bug reports to WineHQ, it appears a 'stripped=false' Wine provides more information than a 'stripped=true' Wine.

Hi.

Is there a version of Wine existing compiled with the RT patch?

I want to try out FeSTige, a Jack Audio Application for the use of VST-PlugIns in Linux. It needs Wine compiled with the RT patch.

No, but I gave my old drum kit away for free to a music store collecting instruments for refugees! :wink:

This thread mentions compiling a RT kernel, and wine is mentioned several times.

This thread mentions wine_rt-1.2.3

I an not familiar with real-time kernels nor real-time wine.
Do you know of a location for the RT patch?

Hy!
, thanks for your compilations!

is there any advantage of i686? (most of us are, i guess, post-P III (and definitely post-P Pro), even if with low ram. pae :( )
coz if yes, why not [build & release for] both? (as i guess, asking simply for a switch isnt okay; but then again, i wonder how 4& 586 class cpu-s are faring with such recent wines and relatively heavy distros like puppy is... but still, better to have even if unbearably slow, so yeah.)

though, now that i think about it, ther eis no other (ie, performance) advantage i guess... what could sse for example give to the mere base libs after all, its the ran app that matters, probably...

Re: Wine - run Windows programs in Linux

#89 Post by aaa3 »

i'd like to add to the record [for the other readers] that the one i find easiest, is simply renaming pets to x.pet.gz (addition to the extension)(or replacing), then unpacking it into tmp/xxx, and running [the iirc built-in] dir2sfs . there. [after popping an urxvt open from double commander there, having added the icon for it to the bar]
thus no need for other programs, scripts, etc. its a rare enough task i guess
(the other way around, - much less convenient: - i mount it, check the latest _ro in initrd; or just click 'view the files' on the x dialog; using the first only if already 'installed'(mounted))

I usually just create .pet files.
There are a few tools that I find useful in creating sfs files.

pets2sfs | post | download | post
createsfs | thread | download
PETS2SFSGUI | thread
right-click options | thread | post | * has many features, one of which is converting to sfs

Related scripts:

When compiling in racy puppy 5.5, I used

Code: Select all

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --build=i486-pc-linux-gnu --x-includes=/usr/X11R7/include --x-libraries=/usr/X11R7/lib --with-x

Menu entries, Color Setter, and other stuff I got from the file 'winegoodies.tar.gz' [post | page] provided by forum member 'technosaurus'.
I only made a few changes to the contents of that file.

green_dome, thanks for doing this year after year. This is a great service to Puppy. Your build has become more or less the authoritative source of fine wines for the community (pun intended :lol:)

One question - can we get a copy of the dependency SFS you used for compiling wine? The one you said "I installed these packages (as one sfs file) before compiling:" ? It makes it easier for us to collect all those dependency rather than having to hunt for all the individual packages.

EDIT: Also, what do you think will run better on Slacko6 - is it 1.1 or 2.1?

Thanks.

I would think 2.1 would be the best.

green_dome, bark_bark_bark, thanks.

EDIT: wine-1.7.3-v2.1.pet converted into wine.sfs for Fatdog64, here. The build-time sfs converted into wine-depends-v2.sfs. These two seems to work well with 32-bit sfs (which is derived from Slacko6), but the wine-depends.sfs is required for some programs (e.g. iexplore for https connection, etc).

Again, thanks for your continuous support on this.

When compiling in racy puppy 5.5, I used

Code: Select all

./configure --prefix=/usr --sysconfdir=/etc --localstatedir=/var --build=i486-pc-linux-gnu --x-includes=/usr/X11R7/include --x-libraries=/usr/X11R7/lib --with-x
<- racy puppy 5.5

Menu entries, Color Setter, and other stuff I got from the file 'winegoodies.tar.gz' [post | page] provided by forum member 'technosaurus'.
I only made a few changes to the contents of that file.

my attempt at compiling wine-1.7.41

wine-1.7.41-i486_v1.1.pet _______ puppy 431 | stripped=true | -> *
wine-1.7.41-i486_v1.2.pet _______ puppy 431 | stripped=false | -> *
wine-1.7.41-i486_v2.1.pet _______ racy puppy 5.5 | stripped=true | -> *
wine-1.7.41-i486_v2.2.pet _______ racy puppy 5.5 | stripped=false | -> *
wine_DEV-1.7.41-i486_v1.pet ____ puppy 431 | -> *
wine_DEV-1.7.41-i486_v2.pet ____ racy puppy 5.5 | -> *
wine_DOC-1.7.41-i486.pet _______ -> *
wine_extras-v2.pet _____________ menu entries | mirrors
md5.txt and hashdeep.txt _________ mirrors
* mirrors

If you are not going to submit bug reports to WineHQ, I recommend packages that are 'stripped=true'
If you are going to submit bug reports to WineHQ, I recommend packages that are 'stripped=false'
When submitting bug reports to WineHQ, it appears a 'stripped=false' Wine provides more information than a 'stripped=true' Wine.

puppy 431 ->

I compiled using puplet: Puppies 4.31.1 by forum member 'ttuuxxx'

mirrors | /distro/4.3__1/puppies-431.1-main-Xserver.iso
mirrors | /distro/4.3__1/devx_430.sfs

This puplet uses glibc 2.6.1
The Wine files listing 'puppy 431' will possibly not work with a glibc before 2.6.1
To see what glibc your puppy has.

Code: Select all

ldd --version
I installed these packages (as one sfs file) before compiling:
