Please read my previous post again (updated). Modern ATI cards do not support XvMC and Xvideo is buggy at best.Only OpenGL (multi)textured video works well.

I still find your VLC package useful - it's great for legacy Radeon 8000/9000 series of cards.Better than gxine :)

Well do you have a link to something that runs slow on it? My video card is 512MB pci-e and I don't use open GL but it always plays movies/dvds perfect. I use with s-video out to tv.

It's not the speed, but the corrupt graphics and tearing I get with Xvideo.
No issues with OpenGL output + VSync.

I'll find a nice 'stress test' video for your machine :)

The alsaplayer also has 6 spectrum scopes included which is kind of cool, but the speed pitch control is fun to mess around with, upto 4x faster or slower, great for classical music, made it sound like scratch music, when you stop a turntable.

Try it on jazz and funk radio streams :) Use 67%, 120% or 140%

Or try the reverse mode with your local audio files.

re: pmount crashing

I have found the following error reports but need to have them investigated by someone who knows more about scripting than me:

Code: Select all

#pmounterr
sh: locate: command not found

#Xerr.log
DEBUG: XError: BadWindow (invalid Window parameter)
DEBUG: Request Code: 20 (X_GetProperty)
DEBUG: Minor Code: 0
DEBUG: Resource ID: 0x1a00003
DEBUG: Error Serial: 50120
Any takers?

As I suspected, pmount in 4.2a4 is identical to pmount in 4.12 where it runs fine, so it's something else that was updated causing the crash. Was this problem evident in the earlier alphas?

well ok this is your point of view. but it's a feature and other people like this feature, me included.

but maybe zigbert could add a option to the preferences like this:

Playback
Option 1: Keep on playing when GUI is closed
Option 2: Stop playing when GUI is closed

Hey WhoDO none of the alpha's did I ever have a mounting problem:) Just this one won't llet me mount, So Like you said, it has to be something you added or removed or forgot to put in.

Plus I have it down to 7.6MB now
So is it going to replace Gxine in Puppy 4.2?
It's stupid to use inferior software for ideological reasons.

Someone would need to fix gtkdialog first.
gtkdialog with menubar cannot be closed by jwmI couldn't really see where the problem was in gtkdialog. I've just realised I never tested it with a different window manager.

ok, i've heard that before, but didn't understand...

but maybe it could be, that if option 2 is selected, pmusic stops playback first (as if the stop-button is pressed) and then closes the gui?

but maybe zigbert could add a option to the preferences like this:

Playback
Option 1: Stop playing when GUI is closed and exit from memory. Should be default, like every other mediaplayer, most users need it that way.
Option 2: Keep on playing when GUI is closed

Also maybe the option to play online streams, because 15-17% of cpu usage by gxine don't forget thats my CPU, to listen mu3 streams and AlsaPlayer uses 2-3% Thats the reason why it plays so much smoother also.My CPU is a AMD Athlon 64 x2 Dual Core 3600 running at 2000MHZ x1 well puppy only lets me use one cpu, but I could be wrong say if your using a 200MHZ PC and listening to same stream would your CPU be around 160% with Gxine and 20-30% Using AlsaPlayer? I've been testing it all night And AlsaPlayer really plays audio way better, I also like the direct Load Cd on the GUI also.

I just don't believe it! The whole problem with pmount revolves around the absence of the mini-filemgr.xpm icon from /usr/local/lib/X11/mini-icons  Replace the icon and voila! The missing icon is attached so you can prove it for yourself!

nice catch
How did you track that down?
The debug out looks like it is from jwm. The versions I have supplied have been compiled with --enable-debug.

- Xpad could be set up without window-decoration. The same way as xli. This is set in /etc/xdg/templates/. Layer should be above xli (Pwidgets slideshow).

- Ptray would work completely if only fixmenus (the hacked one) is included. HairyWill made Ptray use .desktop info if Globicons file didn't contain suitable icon information. Be aware that the complete hack of fixmenus is the one in the DeepThought-jwm-tray package. The one in the Ptray-0.3 package is modified to NOT split 'appname - description'. I thought you wouldn't include it.

- Thank you for the Stardust gtk-theme. You have used the old one from Puppy 4.12. I have made some improvements. You can download it from my 'Stardust resources' page.

Just dumb luck! I checked the error logs in /tmp and there was the Xerr.log so I thought "yeah, that's possible" ... If X is the event horizon then maybe its as simple as the missing icon. Voila! :P

I have added the modified fixmenus from the Deepthought tray package. The split 'appname - description' is a worthwhile innovation IMHO. It was only "left out" because the latest Ptray was overwriting it in the Unleashed tree. If you update Ptray, please include the later fixmenus so I don't have to add it back in rootfs-complete.

Got it. Frankly I didn't know there was an "old one", but I have bookmarked the Stardust resources thread for future reference. Several of the app versions referred to there are superceded now, aren't they? Pfind is now 4.6, Pwidgets is now 0.7-1, etc. It would be nice to have a single point of collection for all of your latest apps. They are always reliable and the first things I would look to update for the newer versions of Puppy.

Right here in my notes to self sez "Frak, more Red ink..." about that exact item but was mere another broke sym to me (hats off & salute to eyes that see and know the consequence) .. wondered where that bugger went - now realize it's not just clumsy slicing with a dull blade here.

Save2CD fine for two datetime dirs on a multi CD-RW so far. Opera 10 pet is good, as are a few others (not playing with fonts this time tho' sorely tempted - the .sfs loader should be good for that, no?). Gave up on jw's toptray configurator, wbar works for ice and others as well (easy breezy as long as there's a bit of margin to nab the apps). Biggest surprise to me was Xorg finally worked with my main comp right from 1st - the bad is that Xorg is awful as far as adjusting the working area to the edges (losing 50 wide by maybe 25 high in black border) and it loses the maus pointer if I bump the right - xvesa is no prob whatsoever but that's just a hwr thing for me. Small typo in pwidget gui - 2 Deep Thought 'themes' (merely a personal opinion earlier, features should be up-front when they add appeal ). Wallpaper setter good-to-go oob for me, just a bit mushy in "is it really working proper?" but actually does set so no more copy bg img and rename to ROX-bg as workarounded in past.

Oya, the rule(?) on adhoc 'restarts' is "whatever wm was last entered at the prompt", yes? Or so I've observed here - a simple edit of blackboxs menu will open jwm for a wm but with no pin, 'quick'restart jwm and I'm back in bb as originally entered at the prompt. As far as I can tell it's coming along very nicely indeed . . .
