@ttuuxxx: How about a "pure" 4.31.2 release (no Firefox,no Xorg downgrade,no insert key crash tweaks) with these additions:

- Memtest86+ (accessible before booting Puppy with a 'memtest' or pfix="test" command)
- The latest SVN build of mtPaint
- Firelog
- A network monitor / bandwidth meter
- A cpu usage meter in the tray (xload is NOT a CPU usage meter)

So are you trying to say that running glxgears twice will give a slower result the second time?
This I do not observe.

The BoxPup CPU usage display down in the tray is SUPERB.

I miss it in other Puppies. :(

Yes. That's what I get with older versions of Xorg :)
Not only glxgears, but other apps can also trigger the performance decrease (disable the pageflipping)

Old versions of Xorg / Xserver also have problems with widescreen resolutions (i.e. 1920x1080)

hmm...don't seem to get that but do notice quite a drop in performance from 16 bit color to 24 bit color...eg 900fps to 500fps with glxgears...I usually use 16 bit.

I don't use 16 bit color. Many apps don't work in 16-bit (pseudo-color) mode.

hmmm...epsxe wanted 24 for its open gl driver .most 3d games I have are running on wine which handles 16bpp ok......
perhaps the bug applies to 24bpp only hence the difference in behaviour...500 fps is near to 16bpp performance without page flipping enabled which at least in that mode has been consistant for me

Regardless of 3d behaviour I definately get slower X11 performance from xorg 6.8 -> 7.0 -> 7.3...difference goes from snappy to sludgy say when scrolling in rox....a fast xorg with bug free drivers would certainly be the ideal (I have one machine where xv acceleration has not been available since XF86 :( )

here's a taskbar volume applet that I converted over to use zmixer, its basically like abs volume with a somewhat hidden launch for zmizer under it. Please try it out and see if the volume actually works, absvolume never worked with my motherboard and neither does this one, but its better looking :)

to start it open a terminal and type

Some non-3D apps also require 24bpp color: i.e. Foxit Reader.

Guys when It comes to Foxit reader, maybe let me handle them? I've been in tight communications with them from the start, I actually have them monitoring each version released on puppy and actually up until the previous release they were actually testing it on puppy. :) but then they released the latest version. Which puppy didn't support for once. grrrrrrrr, But I informed them straight away.

Going away and hard drive info

#139 Post by Minnesota »

First of all TTUUXXX... you are not going anywhere... stay here and 220!

Second.. Love the disk drive info and tester.. lots of good information from that program. Should be in Puppy.. .or publicized more...Also slip in Bubblet in the next version :)))). All seem to run fine on my new E8400 duel processor machine, with Intel video.

Keep plugging you are doing a fantastic job!

Tuxxx,
I'm using your obmixer on Puppy 4.30. I love it.
I also like your gsmartcontrol-0.8.5-i386.pet.
Your work is outstanding!
