Someone please give a try to run gparted. I ran from the menu, the installer, and tried from the terminal. Terminal indicated aborted line 82. Past my pay grade .

Runs fine here too. Screenie basically the same as Geoffreys. I'm currently on the core 2 duo with a pretty fresh frugal install. Only mods are panel, theme look and feel and simpleGTKradio. Uptime a few hours now.

Finally, the first version to use the "nouveau" driver instead of "vesa" on my Nvidia boxes.Tried the previous versions,including the kernel upgrades, but could only use "vesa" at 1600x1200 instead of the desired "nouveau" at 1400x900...."nouveau" simply wouldn't load in prior versions. Looks good now.

Bad download? Or the hard drive is formatted unusually?

I tried to install the proprietary AMD driver (amd_14.12) ...[...]... The AMD driver installed with errors... When I exited to prompt to do aticonfig --initial it didn't work

Instead of sending you my packaged patches, maybe you'll be able to work it out yourself if I send the link to solve the hotplug error. There will be more errors, but this patch should fix the first one. It did for me anyway.

This could be the one that changes my desktop OS.

I have used Saluki 021 for 3 (I think) years now. Carolina wasn't quite there for me. There was always a niggle here or there. It is hard to beat a years adapted OS with a vanilla version.

So far this looks the goods for me.

I have found some niggles though that'd be great to iron out.

I use Virtualbox a fair bit and it doesn't want to play so far.

Also, Kompozer doesn't give me any joy.

Both of these have been installed from SFS downloader in PPM, neither seems to work. I have devx & kernel modules loaded.

That really is handy. I found having to manually cd to directories with spaces incredibly annoying. Definitely going in to the next release... whenever that may be.

As a side note I just discovered Mount/UnMount MTP Device... sooo useful! It drove me crazy how the new Android devices won't mount like simple USB devices, I was having to transfer everything wirelessly (which I don't like)... and then I noticed it... that's been there for awhile hasn't it? Since at least 1.2?

Carolina Vanguard Edition Release 2 fresh USB frugal install on Toshiba Chromebook CB30

Display issue with the Chromebook fixed (R1 was using vesa without the big Xorg).
Touchpad enabled ( more on this later).

Boots straight to desktop.
Wide array of themes and fonts included. (Me enjoying the default theme for now).
Beautiful OS that's just right for the Chromebook.

I've tried to get Virtualbox to build the required kernel drivers, not having much luck, I first tried with the virtualbox-4.3.2-carolina.sfs from the repo, that failed,
I then downloaded virtualbox-4.3.12-1.sfs from shinobar, that started the build process but after some time failed,
however it did produce vboxdrv.ko and vboxnetflt.ko the missing drivers are vboxnetadp.ko and vboxpci.ko.

From what I've read it seems its a bug which is fixed in VirtualBox 4.3.16 and later, here is the log of the build process.

Looks like a nightmare to compille a new virtualbox, beyond my capabilities, anyone up to the challenge

Hummm, problem seems to be on front port USB. Fails, yet I was able to install the OS, but could not get gParted to run right to set boot. Test again tonight, same. Test OK on a different system.

Next try: Test plugged into back-plane - MB, no problem.
Some issue with the particular USB port it seems. AH.... other Front USB port OK.... might be dirty contact on the first USB. ... success.

Ehhh, I know, that's why I left it up to you . I had a look anyway though, and something seems to have changed in the VB installation process. Try just running this script Geoffrey. It seems to compile and work cleanly.

Ahh, ok, thanks for reporting back I wouldn't have known poor USB contact could crash Gparted.

If the KVM element is included in the kernel, I will try to get @MikeB's QEMU and his "Launcher" so that VM guests can be used for the things we would want; such as having a native-like performance for compiling, while normal desktop is unaffected.

KVM is included. I was playing with QEMU for awhile but it seems less user friendly than VirtualBox, though I think QEMU is more resource friendly. I tried different frontends like AQEMU but they seemed a bit shakey, probably because they haven't had active development for years.

I'm first to admit that there are some really nice front-ends that have been available for several years. And, VB is a mature product as well.

But @MikeB introduces a front-end for "Puppy users" implementation which aims to be friendly, though, not a fully featured. as more mature QEMU packages. It is rather simple, yet obvious to use (I think)

And, to get guest(s) running while having ability to connect to the internet from the desktop as well as the ability to share data from/to the host, it is a good, easy to understand, start for PUP users. It also is a small footprint, taking about 60K to run in RAM.

And, there was one other member, last year, who introduce a method to allow the guest to not just go to the internet, but to appear on the local LAN as a real physical PC (via adding the bridge ability to a KVM host).

Hope you did have a chance toreview his Puppy version for launch.
