It looks like wdlkmpx updated the devuan jessie spec with some extra stuff. I'm in the process of building it now, though it will take my old laptop 3-4 hours. I like the idea of having something like this as the wallpaper (thanks musher0!):

http://www.murga-linux.com/puppy/viewtopic.php?p=897742#897742

Tons more good ones here too: https://www.google.com/search?q=Jessie+cowgirl&source=lnms&tbm=isch ;) :lol:
edit: Most things that were missing, are still missing with the updated spec.

So wdlkmpx aka jlst got some more of those ducks in a row yesterday, eh? That's
terrific, but I think I'll let you do the heavy pulling this time, Sailor! :) Break a leg!
~~~~~~~~~~~
I just tried my hand again at a Xenial Pooch this afternoon. I applied all of
666philb's suggestions (I think), but I got pretty much the same result as last time. :(
Three hours for nothing. Oh well.
~~~~~~~~~~~
About the puduan wallpaper: yeah I think that this Pup needs something like that,
distinctive and fun. Unless having a pic of Jessie as the background will get the
people at pixar/Disney all riled up...

In no order, off the top of my head:
Would you happen to know if Jessie has a dog? :) This is Puppy, after all! ;)
We could have a picture of her and her dog.

On the page you mention, I can't see any wallpaper of her for wide screen. Shucks.

BFN.

Haha there is Slinky dog. I found a picture of them together :lol: (maybe there is more...)

Absolutely great! :D

Image

There's a lot of empty space at the top so we should be able to make that pic into a
wide screen wallpaper.

@jlst: Thanks for sharing your thoughts. Some of which give pause...

@Sailor Enceladus: Any luck?

Oh yeah, the amount of missing libraries was still about the same as original so I said "whatevs" and deleted it this morning - lol.

Think I'll just stick with your iso + ginormous 1GB savefile for future experimenting. ;)

@Sailor Enceladus:

With MY iso? LMHO!
Now get this straight, Sailor: flattery won't get you anywhere! :lol:

Seriously: I was hopîng you'd go further than I did with the new mods provided by
jlst. My truly sincere sympathies.

What went wrong?
~~~~~~~~~~
Thinking out loud:
Back to square 1, eh?
Like in the Monopoly game: Do not pass go, do not collect $200.
Sounds as if once upon a time somebody had the key but forgot it along the way
or threw it in the river...
Logging in just now before I read your message, I was thinking that Puppy creation
needed a complete re-think: Puppy From Scratch or something like that.
How did member "wanderer" do it when he published a series of Puppies-CE in
the void (interim) between BK's retirement and the official creation of the woof-CE
process?
I should keep my mouth shut, I'm almost a complete newbie in distro creation and
I'm not half as knowledgeable as some of the guys and gals here, but still, it's
bugging me.
"There has to be a modulo or some sort of fractal formula that will pull us through.
I don't know, maybe a simple but maxi loop at some level of abstraction with a
number of interchangeable objects that would end up with putting a Puppy CD in
your hand." (Quote from Moi!)
Problem seems to be a maximum number of moving targets at the same time.
If we could order a couple of them to stay still for a minute or two: "Hey you!
Don't move! Stop wiggling!"
Sorry for being so vague. BFN.
the DISTRO_PKGS_SPECS-devuan-jessie in woof is pretty sparse, so i took xenialpups DISTRO_PKGS_SPECS and adapted it for the devuan build.
it's far from perfect but you might find it a better base to work from.
one oddity is that drive icons appear on the left for some reason :D
Thanks phil.
I'll give it a try.
~~~~~~~~~~
BTW, in the Choose packages tab, are we supposed to choose anything? Or is it
automatic? If we choose every package individually, that's quite a chore.

What now?

My question is not so much about where and how to find them, but rather where to
put them once I've found them.
  • -- Do I download the *.debs and put them in directory XYZ or
    -- do I open one of the databases and insert the info? (Which one, please?)
    -- Maybe both?
Thanks in advance.

libtsan0 is just for 64bit builds

libgnutls30 is a left over entry from xenial and any package that needs it will need recompiling for puduan.. use checkdeps -system

ndiswrapper is probably obsolete with the latest kernels... if needed you'll should probably make a.pet. and add it to packages-puppy-paduan-official.

lots of stuff should be recompiled for puduan ... i added libjpeg8 so various xenial packages would work, but this isn't in the devuan repos. ideally it should be removed and specific puduan packages made. jwm abiword etc..

Wow, phil, you pulled us through! You're a genius! :)

Ms. Minnie Delna :) and a couple of other programs (one being InkScapeLite) are
reported missing.

More worrisome to me is that the window decorations in jwm and the urxvt font
refuse to be changed.

Also, I probably need to have a coffee with the person who did the new JWM
desk. It is seriously constraining any imaginative approach to the jwm tray bars.
For ex., if you wish to have two separate bars in .jwmrc-tray (please see attached
capture), it will ignore your changes or misinterpret them. I had quite a time
overriding this new JWM Desk.

I shouldn't bother because I personally have limited tolerance towards jwm overall.
I won't spend any time trying to solve this bug since I will be installing another
window manager. But it's sad for those who do like jwm.

However, when all is said and done, I am very grateful to you and also jlst for
your help in these pages and for having provided Puppyists with the means to build
a new Puppy canvas to work on.

Again, thanks. BFN.

Hello phil.

In light of what you said, what should be the criteria for choosing what needs to be
recompiled for the Puduan Pup?

Thanks in advance. BFN.
