Five. A Mac emac running 10.4 or something like that. Then we have two homeschool desktop computers running XP and then my two toys, two laptops both running Puppy. My faster one used to have Vector on it, then I put Dingo on it, but I erased that and am running Puppy 2.15ce live cd and storing some files on usb and hda1 for now. The other one I have 3.01 full install on it.

It's great to see so many sweet people replying for my question! :)

@koolie
I don't know what you hate soooooo much in me.
I agree my website doesn't look like a Web 2 standard, or anywhere near Puppy community site.
But there are even more horrrrrible websites around.

Funny... you've asked:
What-the-hell is this website?
And NOT
What-the-hell is that website? :lol:

OR
Were you Bangalored? :lol: Is that why you show so much of hatred.

@Eyes-Only
Thanks a lot :) .
I love pets, they are soooo pleasing and relaxing to just look at. (this is something people like koolie would need.)

And BTW, err... :oops: ...
That cute gadget, was not made by me.
All credits goes to Adam Bowman. He has a lots more to his credit.

Great art!

Something off-topic,
I now fully agree to your thread America's Utopia Exposed.

I agree whole-heartedly! :D

Back along my sis-in-law and I had shared the URLs of several sites Mike where Lego Art was displayed upon the net. Unfortunately I neither saved her letters nor bookmarked the various sites but I DO know that she and her friend found them in Google and Yahoo. You just may want to look and see where these places are and share pics of your "computer cover" because that truly is a nice piece of art my friend! :) Especially to a Lego Lover. Such art is highly prized and not considered a "joke" by any means.

Remember: "One man's trash is another man's treasure."

I hope that you don't mind---especially since it's already a "fait accompli" anyway :oops: ---but I've saved a copy of your pic and have shared it around with some of my friends who are "serious Lego Art fans". I'm curious to get their take on this.

What I'm curious about Mike? Have you noticed where your computer cover is now plastic instead of metal whether or not your computer tends to run with a cooler CPU and whatnot? Things such as these are what I'm dying to know!

Nice!; thanks :wink:

BTW I seem to remember having a look at your website before you pulled the link

I think you should not have removed it, nor be ashamed of what you do,
if people don't like it, they don't have to go there

You got a good response to this thread
On some forums it's a badge of bragging rights to state what your hardware is;
It strikes me, that with Puppy it's almost the inverse
"how little hardware/resources can you get puppy to run in?"

@Marblemike
Best bit of lego I've seen :lol:

@mshiva

"hate"
"soooooo much"

I would respectfully suggest that you get some help with your problem.

"What-the-hell is this website?"
....that I am viewing as I write this.

As for the last question.. I won't even touch that.

And as for "I love pets, they are soooo pleasing and relaxing to just look at.(this is something people like koolie would need.)"
OK.. I don't know you, and you don't know me, but, as regulars here know, I work with homeless dogs, and I do much more than just look at them.

As a matter-of-interest(or not).. shortly prior to reading your post, I had just arrived home after seeing three pups, about 3 months old,
being abandoned on the opposite side of the highway, and before I could get to them they all got run over.
This, obviously had some influence on my state-of-mind as I read your post.
The "What-the-hell" comment of mine was my thought as I viewed your website.
I always say what I feel, so that came across in my post. I could have done better.

As far as my wondering about your website (and re-inforced by your subsequent reply to Flash, that it is your
"very first website"), I had noticed that you have left a trail of used websites across the net, and that you are adept
at using re-directors and anonymizers. Your website also has analytics on it.

In the interests of maintaining harmony in this forum, I do not intend to pursue this topic further.

I already set up a aluminum dish behind my WRT54G with the dual 7dBi antennas. see here

My reception with my second laptop is super. The bcm43xx, even if I were to dance on it wrapped in foil, I only get 24Mb/s with a full signal. I read somewhere it will only connect up to 24Mb/s and if I want 54Mb/s I need to change my kernel to at least 2.6.24 and then extract newer firmware. see here

suggest 'bcm43xx firmware/driver update help needed'

tempestuous is the man for this, if he doesn't pick up the thread, pm him

PS 3rd one down on your last link may work; b43legacy, depends on your version/firmware

That's why I started this thread. It's very interesting to know how well old computers can perform. I get too excited to know about not-so-popular computers, which couldn't do well in the market. I knew many such old computers with mercilessly limited resources would have been made useful by Puppy.

And I did learn a lot from this thread.

Thanks a lot :) for all those who posted answers (inspite of me and someone virtually fighting over nothing for two full days).

A mate of mine who's visiting just read your post over my shoulder & jested
"tell him, 'you think you've got problems, I'm running on a PDP11 running my OS through punched tape & I'm having problems getting my teletype to keep up, despite a recent doubling of memory to 2Kb upgrade!!' "

@Aitch
Thanks Too! :)

@Eyes-Only
Thanks for the complement.

I had a look out there and am rather embarrassed about my frugal attempt now... There are some really amazing creations out there. I just wanted to have some fun.

The original plan was to do the entire chassis and bolt the motherboard to the Lego itself - just with the addition of a metal plate for grounding, but I ran out of Lego. So I basically stripped the case of front and side panels and just did the cover. The base is actually on those rounded smoothed Lego bits so i can slide it out for easy access. The side USB port was fun to work around when I added that functionality.

Strangely enough - the first thing everyone asks is about airflow! And I must admit it's not that good. :oops: Using the old casing CPU temperature measured 35 C/ 95 F, but with the Lego it's 42 C/ 107 F. I think I could reduce that if I didn't run the front panel quite so close to the chassis. And maybe if I shut all the little doors and windows on the sides! :lol:

But it's really not an issue to me - the Lego's not melting :) , I haven't noticed a difference in the performance and I don't really use that pc for anything really intensive - its only a 400 MHz Celeron CPU anyway.

And I much prefer it to the old Packard Bell cover!

But thanks for the interest - It's always great to meet a fellow Lego fan!

Mike

PS: Feel free to do what you want with the pic.

Hi All

Mine (work) - Apple MacBook - OS-X 10.5.2 - Also has Parallels VM ware from which I sometimes boot Puppy from an ISO image.

Wife (work) - Sony Vaio latest & greatest - runs Windows Vista and despite having lots of ram it runs like a snail. She desperately wants her IT people to install WinXP instead.

Home - MacPro quad core. Dual boots OS-X 10.5.2 & Ubuntu 8. Also has Parallels VM ware from which I sometimes use a (very small) Win XP hard disk file - I try to avoid Windows wherever possible.

Home - Sony Vaio - Puppy Linux all the way - boots from hard disk.
Was my wife's old work laptop which they didn't ask to have back (yet!)

Home - Apple iBook G3 - Mac OS 10.4.11

Ultra portable - CD & USB pen with Puppy to use in Whatever Computer :D

Regards,

Ashley

I got 3 computers

#37 Post by josephelite »

I have 3 computers. 1 new intel 3.2 GHz quad core, a laptop intel 2.4 GHz Dual and an old Intel P4 2.2 GHz. The last one I donated to ERA. Electronic Recycling Association in Canada. They said they are going to refurbish it and donate to either a local school or an elderly home. I choose and requested that they donate it to an elderly home instead. I delivered it to their Vancouver Computer Recycling Station

1 Asus 900 - Puppy 4.1.2
1 IBM T43 - Puppy 4.1.2
1 stationary 2.0 GHz Intel Windows XP / Ubuntu 7.0 dualboot

I've only used Puppy for 2 weeks - was initially looking for a new OS for my Asus 900 and found this pearl. What a gift to mankind - I love it!. The first OS I've tried that is both lightweight and user friendly. Killer combo!
