On Slacko this is what I did, Yes I was lazy
First I downloaded FF48 and extracted to usr/lib
next I deleted the system link in usr/bin/firefox
then I opened usr/lib/firefox and dragged it to usr/bin and selected make a system link
then I went to the package manager and did a search for gtk3
'webkitgtk3' was displayed, well I knew that was gtk3 based and had a gtk3 backend and so I installed that and it installed gtk3 and other deps.
I restarted firefox and boom it worked.

Not mentioned in this thread yet - Puppy Precise 5.7.1 can run firefox 46.xx and later by installing the libgtk-3 package

utilice el .pet del enlace que facilito el usuario "Perdido".
