Hello, was just wondering if dejan55 sfs installer will work with 482beta 1. I like to have a full install and would like to install related devx.

Cheers

Hmmm, I have couple of sfs's for kde maybe I could pack into several or make a large one, but I don't know if I'll have chance to upload those big files are much for my connection and bandwidth. I'll see what I can do, it will probably be in sfs, some parts are already up, like that amarok sfs and kopete & kpdf in other thread

With puptv, there is a channel changing function. (see the button?) May not be as intuitive as it could be... I can add some tooltips (a little window that pops up and tells you what the button/icon does)

For more channels look in the eyecandy sub-forum under .. um "TV Channels" I think ( :? )

Does 482 use sfs4 files?
Haven't tried but if it mounts sfs4 with -t squashfs it should work.

Worked in 481 full install. The only reason it wouldn't is sfs v-4. (I haven't got 482 yet... I suppose it is sfs-4?... if it is it should probably work anyway)

Hi again, thanks for the answers. I should have just gone ahead and tried it and let you know, as it is I have stuck with 477, as the newer kernel doesn't offer anything extra for my old machine. I did download the sfs installer and it worked with the 477 devx. On another note is there support for ext4 with 477 and 482, I have tried both but was unable to mount my ext4 partitions, but I don't know if that may be some quirk with my partitioning scheme. I also would like to offer any assistance with backgrounds and such, I have some examples of my work on the Lighthouse Pup section if you wish to have a look. Increasing my skills with Gimp and Inkscape is something I have a passion for, so please let me know.

Cheers

gposil:

Any ideas on the Synaptic errors I mentioned? It is happening on a full hard drive install.

Besides the installer not recognizing all of my EXT3 partitions and the Synaptic errors, things seem pretty darn stable.

Getting ready to do a full install of 482 Beta 1 in a few, if the installer works correctly.

Well, that was quick. Attempted a full hard drive install of 482 Beta 1. Once again the installer fails to recognize all of my partitions.

See Screenshot.

sda 8 is ext 3 w/ Puppy 4.30, sda9 is ext3 w/ 2.14 x and sda 10 is ext 3 (big surprise) w/ another 4.30 install.

Ideas, suggestions, fixes......

jasmac, 482 should recognize ext4 without a problem, 477 will only recognize ext4dev.

James C, i'll check your installer prob now, and get back to you....as to Synaptic problem, my mistake, I will have a patch for it later tonight.

Additional info:

When the installer is detecting partitions, the green "mount" momentarily blinks on sda 1,sda 5 ,sda 6 and sda 8.......but no higher, sda 7 is swap. Then sda 8,9 and 10 do not appear in the installer.

For James C and everyone else using 482, go to the patch directory and you will find 2 patches, they should address any ext4 and puppy installer probs. Please let me know.

Synaptic patch will be up later tonight....

Hi guys and gals

Posting from 482 now... on my Eeepc701SD, did a cheat usb install (from inside 430, using Barry's BootFlash USB Installer). My main box is not booting from darn cds! (Idid a cheat frugal of 477 on that, if people need drivers for 477 I can compile on that). If people need drivers on 482 tempestuous' thread is the go (I mentioned that earlier).

One thing on the Eee... with Firefox it's a pain because Seamonkey has the ability to colapse all the bars a few clicks, regaining valuable real estate on this tiny screen. No biggy, I'll install it and tell you how it goes. :)

Now, I've got wireless going, off to get more drivers. One thing I noticed Guy (probably reported) the list of available network modules is almost empty, I suspect all the drivers are there just the config file needs to be updated.

Cheers

Mick...in Firefox, just hit F11 and you collapse all toolbars and go full screen, with the toolbars autohidden till you mouse over the top of the screen.

Thanks for that Guy. Incidentally, Seamonkey-2b2 (the one I sent to the petstore  ) works fine

Ext4 is not recognized on a frugal or full hd installation of 477 on my machine. Also, ext4 is not recognized on a frugal installation of 482. I have been unable to boot a full hd installation of 482 (will download and try again).

Other problems noted with both 477 and 482 frugal installations:
1. Set global font size does not work.
2. Synaptic package manager will not work. When trying to update, error messages are: "could not download all repository indexes", "E: Lists directory /var/lib/apt/lists/partial is missing." and "E: Archive directory /var/cache/apt/archives/partial is missing." (same problem with full hd installation of 477)
3. First start wizard starts unexpectedly.

However, I've found that otherwise it is very stable and fast.

Mick, if you got the patch directory in 482 on the site you will find the netmodules update, which will fix the list problem.

Jim1911, 477 can only read ext4dev partitions not full ext4, but 482 should have no probs, i'll have to check that prob out. The Synaptic patch will be up later tonight, as stated earlier.

Jim1911, there is a pmount ext4 update in the patch directory, that should fix the problem...let me know

gposil,

I am still unable to install 482 as a full disk installation with a new download. Grub tries to boot it, but it fills the screen with flickering error messages. Went back to 477 for a full hd installation which boots fine. A frugal installation of 482 boots with no problem.

I'll try the patches on the 482 frugal installation and report back.

Jim

EDIT: Using frugal installation of 482:
1. Tried patch which ppm shows as installed. However, ext4 partitions are identified correctly but cannot be mounted. Barry has apparently corrected all the ext4 problems with 430 (see his blog) and I now have a frugal installation of ttuuxxx's 4.3.1 running fine on an ext4 partition. I'd like to try full hd and frugal installations of dpup on an ext4 partition.

2. Using ppm, successfully installed amsn and Bibletime. Bibletime did have one missing dependency, libcurl-gnutls.so.4. It was then installed and Bibletime works fine. Both amsn and Bibletime .desktops had to be edited in order for the icons to show up on the menu.

3. Installed Pwidgets-2.1.0.pet which appears to work fine.

4. The "Set global font size" doesn't work on 482. Apparently, that bug depends on the hardware, but Barry's fix for it works fine.
