Brussels
Interesting reads on this topic.
Here in Brussels ER entered the gardens of the royal palace. They are not open for public.
ER tried to hold assemblies/working groups.
The police took rather brutal action.
It is clear that authorities here, especially in Flanders, don't like to be reminded about environmental or climate issues.
Nor does the vaste majority of the public.
Most people like it perfectly the way it is going right now.
Remember that most of the pollution is from after second world war, by us who are living the way we do by choice.
It would be gigantic to change all that.
I agree mostly with musher0:
The actions of ER, or any other, will not land us anywhere in this matter, but it is still good to raise or keep awareness.
I am not proud nor happy with a lot of choices my generation(s) have made nor with the way we choose to live.

What XR is forgetting is that the working poor are part of the ecosystem too. XR can't go
very far making populations angry at them. This movement will probably die soon --
swallowing its own tail.
As practical actions for the environment go, I much prefer the artificial tree invented by Dr.
Ferrer and his team, and the Tero compost machine invented by two Quebec City women.
Those are practical and don't annoy Joe Public.

This angle is not taken into account when decisions are made!!
Not by the decision makers, nor by the supporters/objects of the decisions.
Decisions are made along the lines of liberal economics by people who got whealthy in this environment.
It also explains why it is so hard to make ecological/climate issues an important consideration with the vast majority of people,
who have to work and pay for their own relative whealth, as well as for the increasing unevenly spread wealth.
Economical, social and ecological choices are intertwined.

The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

I think this actually from a very innovative floating wind farm at the coast of Scotland.

I wonder if such large areas with windmills can influence wind and weather patterns?
They also kill a lot of birds!
We have had a very successful export of sea-eagles from Norway to the UK, particularly to rebuild the scottish sea-eagle population. In 1975, Norway had app. 400 out of 500 registered sea-eagel couples in Europe. That inceased in 2013 to app. 3-4000 hedging couples, thanks to a strict conservation programme, and those numbers allowed us to export some to other areas in northern Europe.
At our norwegian west coast island Smøla, there is a big 'windpark', where the number of dead sea-eagles found on the ground, has now passed 100. According to the Norwegian Institute for Nature Research (NINA), in this single location, they have registered more than 500 dead, large birds since 2006. More than 100 sea-eagles, 3 golden eagles, 200 ptarmigans, and various types of falcons. In addition, not counted, a large number of crows, swans, geese and other birds. But, these numbers are only based on the found victims, some others are eaten, some disappear into the sea or they are simply not picked up to be registered.

Effect on wild life is certainly a concern!tallboy wrote: They also kill a lot of birds!
However, "a lot" is a huge overstatement.
And yet the issue is real (specially for "environmentalists") and steps has been taken to decrease if not eliminate it

In terms of the 'huge overstatement' I can't help but wonder how many raptors (eagles, condors, ospreys etc...) are being killed by wee pussy cats in comparison to wind turbines...
sparrows, song-birds like thrushes and so on, yes... but raptors (of which there are comparatively few compared to these wee birds pussy eats)?????
Statistics is certainly a wonderful manipulation of mathematical data collections, which can be used to 'prove' anything and support any and even the daftest of arguments.
I would have thought, though, that everyone was or should be an 'environmentalist' since it would be entirely ignorant not to care for the environment we live in. But I realise it would be naive to imagine that everyone has even a little common-sense. Indeed, it is a known 'fact' that there are some members of murga forum who think it is safer if we all carry guns to protect ourselves from others carrying guns, or in case we decide to rise up against our daft governments (fair point I suppose, but who decides who needs shot?).
