So you are always limited to 128k up and down? That would suuuuuuuuck. Plus $30 for another gig of transfer after your 7gig is used up? Is that a satellite thing or an AU thing? Man I feel for you. 128k is like having an old-school ISDN or bonding dialup modems.

The first 7Gb run at 8Mbit down and 1Mbit up...then revert to 128/128 after I have used the first 7Gb...

Aaaaaah- that makes more sense. But still....

Ah well, that's the price we pay for living out in the country on 2400acre farm...ADSL will never come here but we may get digital optic fibre cable next year(maybe). For the time being satellite is the only alternative to 56k dialup...

Hmmm,

A bit pricey that satellite stuff... not to mention setup costs..

gposil's plan is twice the price of mine with half the value... that is the comparison of sat to adsl2+. I only live 2 km from the telephone exchange whereas gposil may be 50km (?) from one. Adsl is only good for about 5km from an exchange here I think (well that was a few years ago, I don't think it has improved a great deal).

Cheers

What do you say about a new thread when beta5 does eventually find it's way to us? This one is starting to get long. Er... the last 2 pages are all but irrelevant! (Yes... I'm guilty too)

I'm going to have to stop the upload as we are about to get large electrical storm...it should resume once I get back on....I have to turn off the satellite dish during storms...sorry...

You could never become a Sith master
We do our best work during storms

In case the worse should happen (lightening strike)
consider placing a copy of beta 5 in a sealed wire cage box
We can then send a Puppy forensic team to make a recovery
amongst the lightening struck remains . . .

Are you on a sheep farm?
Maybe a few ready barbecued sheep would be available
for rescuers?

Stay safe. 8)

Guys...I have to apologize, it appears I will have to wait until Tuesday morning to upload beta5, it just keeps crapping out...with full speed it only takes about 10-15 minutes to upload the iso, so that's it then...

Sorry

Don't feel sorry. A wise decision.

I second Beem - no need at all to apologise, gposil, you've done a wonderful job.

A wise decision.
Indeed.
Now that you have our attention,
anything else worth addressing?

There could be a special puppy account with the well known puppy:linux login.

puppy calendar

Calendar is public but email address must be added to the account to edit. I have not added anyone's email, I do not presume to know who wants to edit this thing other than me. The calendar can be embedded with this:

Code: Select all

<iframe src="http://www.google.com/calendar/embed?src=puppy.linux%40tubeguy.org&ctz=Australia/Perth" style="border: 0" width="800" height="600" frameborder="0" scrolling="no"></iframe>
Email me for details on access, I don't think it's a good idea to make that info public.

In order to keep this calendar separate from my own I created a new email address, puppy.linux at tubeguy dot org, for use in setting the calendar account up. It then occurred to me that if anyone wants a puppy email address or some webspace I can make that available as well. Address would be of the form foo@puppy.linux.tubeguy.org and I can supply FTP credentials for the subdomain.

Edit: I haven't actually added anything to the calendar yet, it's just there.

I love google calendar, been using it for years. I used Yahoo email and calendar before that but when I got a gmail address I dumped Yahoo for Google, email and such is just so much cleaner. Back in the day when Hotmail first came out I thought webmail was a joke, like it wasn't "real" email, but I find I use gmail for all personal stuff now.

New thread for Beta5

Dear gposil,

I second 01micko's suggestion that a new thread be started for beta5. 'Though it's possible to jump to the end of a thread, by doing so sometimes important discussions can be overlooked, or previously solved questions reposed by someone new to the thread. On the other hand, it took me, on an off, several days to read thru to page 37 +/- when I discovered dPup 482beta4.

Beta5 is a new plateau. Perhaps you could add cross-links between the beginning of a new thread and the end of this one for anyone new who wants to know how you got to where you are. If you have the time perhaps you could write up a Changelog to start the thread.
Anyone believing there's an important discussion from this thread which needs to be referenced in the new thread can summarize and post a link to it.

Guy,

Is there a donation button on the dpup.org page? I don't know the prices for high-speed in Australia, but if each one of us chipped in a couple of dollars, it might help speed up the connection ?

For this, I wouldn't mind sending a few $ to the dpup PayPal account! (Or other reliable account).

BFN.

There is now.

I've started a new thread for beta5 also....
