Hiding parts of the filesystem

#1 Post by Mathiasdm »

I'm remastering Puppy, and I'd like to keep most of the filesystem hidden from the users.
Example: etc becomes .etc ?
Or will this cause problems?

:( Too bad.
Is there any other way to hide the filesystem?

Puppy is single-user, and oriented to empower the user, let him/her rampage through the system unhindered.

Hiding the filesystem... well, there are techniques.
I recall a special version of Bash that does something like that.
It would also be possible to setup a small filesystem inside the home directory and chroot into it. -- there are some tools available for this, the user can't get out.
My memory on this is vague, you would have to hunt around the Internet, maybe sourceforge.

There is a fundamental problem though, with the user running as root.
