Tahr 6.0.5 No Spell Check in Txt editors (fixed Forums)

#1 Post by zandoval »

New install Tahr 6.0.5... Don't have spell checking in my Txt editors like Geany, Leafpad and also in the forums I goto including Puppy.

But I do have full spell check in Libreofice, Abby Word, and HexChat.

I am not sure why... Did I not turn it on some where?[/i]

Most small text editors will not have spell checkers.

This forum does have a spell checker.

It flagged sma when I wanted small.
Thanks,
Andy

In this forum, spell check is working for me.
Maybe something with the browser you are using.

For Geany you have to install the spell check plugin.

I got it from the Puppy Package Manager.
Do search for Geany.
Spell check plugin will be one of the listed items.
Download and install.

When you start Geany go to tools->Plugin Manager
Check the spell check plugin.
Click on preferences to set it up the way you want it.
Click apply.

It will also put a spell check item in the tools menu.

If you need a specific language. You will need to install a dictionary for that language, if you do not already have it.
The things they do not tell you, are usually the clue to solving the problem.

I agree... It does not make sence... I don't have the spell check plug in in Geany. I have downloaded and installed it via the PPM but its not there in the preferances...

Checked my browser settings and yep spell check is operational till I get to a Forum... Any forum that uses text entry...

Its gonna be fun chasing this one down...

Spell check will not be listed in edit->preferences.

After you download and install the spell check plugin.
You do all the setup from the Plugin Manager.
When you start Geany go to tools->Plugin Manager
Check the spell check plugin.
Click on preferences button at bottom.
set it up the way you want it.
Click apply.

Spell-checking in forum posts is handled by your browser. For Seamonkey/Firefox, do the following.

1. Right-click on a word and verify that "Check Spelling" is enabled.

2. Check that a language is installed and download a dictionary if necessary.

Not sure about this...

SPell checking is active and working in all my browsers and other programs. Its only in my text programs that spell checking is not found or active or even available.

That is only the text boxes where you input text and the text editors.

I surly must be missing something or accidently turned it off...

I have never had this problem on any of the Puppy versions????

NOTE: I installed the Geany spell check plug in from PPM but when I go to the plugin manager in Geany it does not show.

Could I install another text editor that has a working spell check then make it the default text editor???

Well, sorry for misleading you.

I got Geany spell check plugin to work, but I was using it in a different version of Puppy.

I tried it in Tahrpup 6.0.5 and can not get the spell check plugin to load.
The Geany stuff in the repositories are for Geany 1.23 and the Geany in Tahrpup is V1.25, so that may be why.. Version miss match.
Also, check dependencies shows a missing file for the spell check package.
Still trying to figure out how to get that missing file.

Abiword can do txt files. Spell check works in it.
