Unable to compile in Quirky

HI all (any compiler helpers/experts out there?),

Is it possible you could take a look at this post-URL below on murga (slavvo doesn't drop in very often....so it might be a long time before he replies).

What the heck am I doing wrong? **Update: I went to ibiblio, downloaded the full devx-8.0 barry uploaded, installed it to Quirky 8.0 USB install, and I am still getting that darn:

sh: make: command not found

I know "make" and everything else is there in the quirky install, I mean, the whole +~200mb devx file is installed.
(i also re-downloaded the openssl-1.0.2j file to make sure I didn't get a corrupted download the first time).

Thanks!

lol I tried to download devx-8.0.10-xerus.pet here: http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/quirky/quirky6/armv7/releases/pre-alpha/

Says it's 193MB on the site but the download was 618MB. md5sum didn't match either. Weird that it's a pet instead of an sfs.

Uh, which arch -- 64? You were :D too quick Sailor..

Belham, if those dwnlds were via browser, don't do dat. Browsers have a way of corrupting dwnlds.

Code: Select all

wget http://ftp.nluug.nl/os/Linux/distr/quirky/quirky6/amd64/packages/pet_packages-xerus/devx-8.0-xerus64.pet
As for new libs, whether installed or loaded, always run an "ldconfig" before stating things don't work.

I'll upload the DEVX for RUXerus on the RUXerus thread. Barry's should work ok, it's the same infrastructure.

I actually drop in quite often. You just need to post under the RUXerus distro and I'll respond..

Semme: Thanks for sending the link.

Thanks,

Slavvo67

PS: I don't use a DEVX.sfs file. I prefer a pet for full install. Once it's there, it's there and I don't need to mess with it anymore.

Hi Semme!

Thanks for the "ldconfig" tip....wrote it down and stuck in my little notebook about 1st things to do after installing any pup's "devx'.

I've a question (anyone else can jump in here too in helping me understand this) that always confuses me about "compiling" overall. Hopefully it is a simple answer. Yesterday, I did another compiling (again, using the new openssl-1.0.2j release) using peebee's/phil's LxPupXenial32 and Phil's devx installed for it.

The compiling went great, followed everything the terminal brought up, and in the end, a nice, new "openssl-1.0.2j.pet" was created. My question is this (and I've seen this before in a few other compiling tries):

---when a person is compiling (for install on the OS he/she is using for compiling), and the terminal gets completely done after doing the ./config, make, new2dir make install routine, was or is whatever your compiling automatically installed to your pup distro at the same time as it makes the nice, new shiney .pet?

I always think that after compiling I am supposed to install the new .pet. But like on this recent compiling for openssl, I went to the terminal to check my 'openssl version' and it said it had been updated from the 'openssl 1.0.2g fips created 1 Mar 2016' to this new 'openssl-1.0.2j created 21 Sept 2016' I just compiled. Doesn't a person have to install a .pet after it is created before it shows in the pup OS?? Or does the terminal/pup OS do both at the same time???

(sorry for the noob-like questions, i keep trying to teach myself more about pups overall...and of course the more I try to learn & thus deeper I get, the more I realize I don't know shite from shinola...ignorance before was bliss, lol!)

P.S. Dang, Flash, sorry again I did not do a subject when I opened this thread. Thanks for writing one. Sitcking a reminder Post-it on top of my screen that says: "WRITE A SUBJECT BEFORE POSTING!!!"

Er, I hope that you are running Quirky on an ARM board, such as Raspberry Pi2 or Pi3, because that is what that devx pet is for.

Notice the "armv7" in the path. Also there is a readme that clearly explains the files are for the Raspberry Pi:

I didn't even notice Sailor had that in his link. Hope he didn't try to install it as I am pretty sure he wasn't meaning it for Rasp Pi. This is what I used for the devx.pet for Quirky 8.0
