How to configure scheduling priority for realtime?

HI everyone,
I'm attempting to configure my /etc/limits file for realtime priority scheduling; specifically for audio recording, so max CPU, memory allocation. If anyone has achieved this without installing an RT kernel, I would be grateful for your assistance.
