The really terrifying thing is the COST, and that is due to the following...
1.) the 28GHz band that will provide the service cannot penetrate through a wall.
2.) Therefore, a system of antennae within the house must be grouped together and uploaded to the Cell Tower.
3.) Again, due to the 28GHz band, there has to be MANY more towers installed, closer together.
4.) The above 3 factors, all due to the properties of operating in the 28GHz band, and the physical properties of the 28GHz band ( lack of penetration power, and lack of 'line-of-sight' transmission ) is an enormous burden for the subscriber to pay.
BTW, those Towers run on electricity, with a diesel generator backup.

Real 5G will work between 2.5 -4.2 gigahertz. But, the current FCC is hyping 28-37 gigahertz where the range is "a few hundred feet" line of sight only.
btw, ATT is already labelling some of their phones with some kind of pseudo 5g labels (5G E). It is the same scam as the 4g label they used in the past to imply LTE - it was actually 3G, HSPA+. They got away with that here because the official 4G spec was not implemented. Only LTE-advanced qualifies as true 4G in the US, as far as I know.

A few thoughts about 5 Gee.
1) Back when we had a lot of folks on dialup and low end DSL web pages took several seconds to load. Today with our much faster network, webpages again often take that long because they download about a zillion "frameworks" and stuff like that.
2) Web-2.0 is largely dead because companies are changing or removing their APIs and otherwise making it impossible for robots to interact with them because they need to show you ads to get money.
3) Super high resolution video is no advantage when a movie's story outright sucks. Springsteen's "57 Channels And Nothings On" may need a bit of updating but it is still as true today as ever. In his entire career Shakespeare only wrote some 37 plays. This means that most trips to the Globe Theater would be to see a rerun of an old play. BTW: The old Law and Order is still good and is at 640/480 other there abouts.
4) 5G and the like is going to make us depend more and more on systems with single failure points. The short range means that a lot of hops are needed. In slightly more rural places all the hops will go through one site.
5) The "S" in "IOT" has always stood for security. The app you have to download to make your toaster work will be how the hackers empty your bank account. With 5G they will do it in well under a second while you are trying to toast an "English muffin".
6) The evil governments of the world will find ways to use it for evil and will evil corporations etc. This will be one reason people will work to block 5G.

If you want to talk about a need for speed, then look no further.
In these corona-times, people here in Norway are encouraged to work from home, if they can. The introduction of 5G will in a near future allow several additional types of businesses to have a large percentage of their workforce working from home. It will allow the companies to keep their existing offices or production locales, while keeping a safe distance between those employees who are needed in the workplace.
