The operating system was in the works for a couple of years already, but the recent developments forced the company to take action and accelerated the production. As it stands right now, Harmony OS is available on Honor Vision TV, but that’s likely to change.

From what Huawei revealed until now, the new OS is using a micro-kernel, just like Android. This basically means that the kernel is built with only the required drivers and components to keep it light and to be able to deploy it fast on multiple devices.

The Chinese company is also saying that Harmony OS is faster than Android because the connections between the hardware (camera, sensors, etc.) and various parts of the operating system are made through a single layer.

The first thing the article say is wrong.

Phone manufacturers don't pay royalties to google for android. Android is free.

Phone manufacturers pay to access the Google Play store and Google apps that use the google servers, but Android is open source and free (at least free as in beer). They are perfectly free to use Android and set up their own substitute for the play store and use their own apps (this is exactly what Amazon does).

I read that Harmony is not yet available as a replacement for Android on Huawai phones, so there's nothing to be learned about it yet.

I have a Huaewi Mate 20 Pro, and I absolutely love it! I am not a chinese or US citicen, but I am more afraid of Google, the amount of information they collect and distribute and make available to US agencies is grotesque.
I think the Trump & Co.'s crusade against Huawei is unfair, and will hit back against US interests very hard in the long run. Huawei employ more than 80.000 people, and 30% of them are engaged in research and development. They'll find solutions.
