Glimpse is a fork of the GNU Image Manipulation Program. The goal is to experiment with other design directions and fix longstanding bugs.

We now expect it to arrive some time in September 2019. Our developers are still puzzling out how to package the built code for different operating systems, and the artwork for the rebrand is not quite ready yet. Despite this, you can expect there to be a code freeze before the end of August 2019 so we can focus our energies on solving both of those problems.

I hadn't seen that one before.
I'm from an English speaking country and I've never heard "gimp" used as a derogatory term - how much of a real thing is it?
Is this actually a real project, with real developers, or is it purely a "SJW" rename and rebrand?
