Youtube-dl yad gui

#1 Post by stemsee »

Here is a very simple script to use with youtube-dl. The script will even download the youtube-dl if not in /usr/local/bin ....

EDIT: now just drag'n'drop youtube url to dnd pane. Info will be displayed .... slecet which format you want to download. Then press download button. A yad progress bar will open. At this point you can continue to use the gui to get info and download more videos.

Hi , it would be more efficient to be able to choose between video/audio formats that are available ? (by checking the video : youtube-dl -F video_url)

So cool it works great.
So less lines of code with yad to make simple gui's.

For me , the drag and drop is disturbing, i would prefer a box to put my url , and no button Cancel in case of i want to exit the program for any reason.

Thanks stemsee for your work.

This update retains dnd .... other tests were unsuccesful. I attemted to activte cancellation .... very difficult .... maybe not working correctly.

This version accepts youtube, facebook and possibly other site video/media URLs.

List downloads just ls $HOME

Info is for about/how to

I am unlikely to work on this further for the foreseeable future.

Hi stemsee.

No possibility of adding a "download music in best-audio quality" function, then?

I'm asking because I dl'd this video of a luth quartet the other day, and music and image
were synchronized viewing it on the youtube site, but they weren't after download when I
played the video in mpv or gnome-mplayer. (Might as well download just the music then.)

Anyway, thanks for this script.

BFN.

PMusic 6 does what you want.

The latest youtube-dl is 2020.01.01

The latest version behaves the same as the last version
with the same error messages.

There seems to have been no attempt to fix the problem.
Python 3 should work with Dailymotion.
Python 2 does not.

Older versions like 2019.11.22 still work on Dailymotion,
but maybe do not allow downloading all resolutions and codec types.

For correctly synced music videos, I had a good result this afternoon with

Code: Select all

youtube-dl -f best URL
run from console, though. Will continue testing.

For music only, still in console (I can't get used to PMusic, sorry):

Code: Select all

youtube-dl -f bestaudio --extract-audio --audio-quality 0 URL
"gave me what I wanted." ;)
Saves as an opus file.

IHTH.

nic007 Musher0 and B.K. Johnson .... Don't think I haven't noticed your stalking and harrassment which goes un-hindered by the powers that be! Why can't you all just man up and state your pathetic case!? What is it objections to a 'Suite' related? What? ? I can't hear you??

@stemsee
Harassment? Stalking? What the hell are you talking about? Are you losing it man? I don't remember ever posting anything to you/any thread of yours before today. I made a mistake attributing a pet to you. You responded that it wasn't your program. I initially apologized for my error then deleted my 2 posts. Which one of those actions (erred posting; deletion) is harassment? Which stalking? It was my intention to ask you via PM to delete your post also but I never got the chance. Instead I get this baseless accusation. I now ask you to also remove your post to avoid an orphan.

You are sadly mistaken about me harassing or stalking you or anyone else.

EDIT
The first post I edited to read "Deleted - wrong thread" (may not be exact words). That edited post has disappeared somehow.
The second, in response to stemsee's post at 08:30: "not my program", the one with "Sorry", posted at 08:52, I intended to also delete, but I obviously forgot since it is still there. I have now deleted it.
Following the edit/delete, I sought to find the right thread and re-post the message for the correct author this time. As is usual in Puppy, it took some time for me to locate gtk-yt-dl-0.1 to do so. You can see that the post was done at 10:12 here.

Sweet Jebus. What the fucking fuck do we have here? My question is not even related to your little GUI project which is nice BTW. There is a problem with downloading from Dailymotion lately with all the online downloaders I normally use. As I am not a youtube-dl user, I asked a general question to those who actually have been using this software (with your GUI or not). The youtube-dl dpwnload is a big one (almost 30mb) so I wanted to know if it works with Dailymotion before downloading it. I think you should man up and apologize for your snotty remarks.

For anyone who might find it useful to know,
on my machine, the latest /usr/bin/youtube-dl is 1.7 M
(that is, less than 2M)

Oh okay. The big size I'm talking about relates to whether you have Python installed?
